Transition run no.5

It seems like these runs are speeding up a little :)

So this morning, while Mrs LeeU ran W6R3 on the treadmill I ventured off out on my own, I decided to give the ParkRun course a miss, opting instead for the canal toe-path.

I had decided I was going to limit the run to 2 miles, mainly to see how I went on my own, there is a bridge over the canal about a mile down the toe-path so that was my turning point, I wasn't going to turn around when I got near to it, I was going to touch it to ensure I got the distance in.

I did play around with my Garmin yesterday, setting up a couple of alerts to warn me of my upper and lower speed, aiming for more or less a 42-43 minute 5k pace, I wanted to push myself a little as it's one of my short-mid term goals of hitting a sub-40 minute 5k.

Anyway, I digress, I started the run on my Garmin when I actually started running and during the first couple of minutes my wrist was continuously vibrating as I was going too fast, but about 5 minutes in I settled into a nice pace with no vibrations at all.

I'd also made the conscious decision to not put any music on, I had my head set around my neck but didn't use it.

The bridge came up, as planned I touched it, I checked my Garmin, 1.02 miles and headed back towards the car, same pace.

I did get some speed alerts on the way back, both too fast and too slow, I know there's no such thing as too slow but I wanted the pace.

I got back to the car park, checked my Garmin, 2.04 miles, I stopped the run and walked for 5 minutes.

2.04 miles in 28:26, slightly below what I was aiming for but I ran outside for 2 miles without killing myself in the first 5 minutes.

I know it's not Loch Lomond but this is the canal from this morning.

Happy running everyone.

Great effort sounds like a lovely route

It's quiet on a week day, weekends it tends to get busy with cyclists and runners. For some reason I prefer it to the ParkRun course that is closer to home, it's great for a bit of quiet contemplation.

Great run LeeU and a lovely place to run alongside.

I tried something similar to you a few weeks ago on the garmin. Only I did it with the heart rate monitor and it was vibrating constantly, it now turned off drive me in sane. Now trying to slow my pace just using my breathing.

Have a nice day 😊

Are you finished going to Dubai yet?

I'm finished in Dubai, a little bit of work to do remotely but no 7 hour flights, off to Orlando on the 2nd though.

My heart rate max for this one was 164bpm, more than the same run on the treadmill but I'm not concerned about it.

As long as I control my breathing and the heart rate rise is gradual I'm not going to loose sleep over it.

Have a nice day yourself :)

That looks lovely LeeU , which canal is it?

Chesterfield Canal, I get on it behind Morrisons in Staveley. A lot of work has been done on it in the last 10 years, trying to return it to it's former glory.

I hate all the garmin vibrations especially the move ones in the evening when you've had busy active day with long run. Finally turned move alert off before I smashed the Garmin 😉

I'm not planning on having them on all the time, only to help with my pacing issue, I don't use them when I'm out with Mrs LeeU for instance.

As soon as my body accepts the fact that I can't run at 8mph for long periods of time the sooner I'll be turning them off.

To be honest, it was a little chilly by the canal this morning and I had my thumbs through the holes in the sleeves and I had to keep checking the alerts to see which one it was.
