My name is Sammy, I’m looking to get of my ass and get running to a healthier happy me. I have had a difficult year emotionally and mentally, it’s taken it’s toll and as much as I’m eating well I’m drinking too much and stuck in a bad habit! I want change, I love the great outdoors and have a beautiful forest running ground 10 minutes from me.
Do I need to invest in expensive running shoes, is a warm up essential?
Would love your support & to hear your stories & challenges to make positive change
Love & Peace

Hey Sammy , love this motivated energy, good luck with the program, I'm also new so can't offer too much advice yet....enjoy the woods! Love from Africa
Hi Sammy, well done on deciding to run and to join the forum! There are some pinned posts at the top of the page to read with great advice. I think they say look at getting proper running shoes once you’re on week 3 or 4? The how to post will tell you 👍🏻
Enjoy the plan, choose your coach in the app (I have Jo Whiley, and she’s brilliant!), post lots on here and you’ll get lots of encouragement, enjoy it all! 👏🏻🏃🏼♀️👏🏻
Welcome. There is a strength and flex podcast to go with the c25k course which helps keep those muscles sorted. All the sessions from w1r1 start and finish with a 5min warmup which gets you on your way to your woods. Shoes, go for gait analysis to check how your feet are running and buy the recommended shoe or insole to adapt your foot and prevent knee and hip injury, if you are going to get them anyway get them at the start. Enjoy
That’s great info, thank you, as I do have problems with my knees hurting even after a long walk. I’m hoping that the jogging won’t exacerbate this problem as it’s a constant dull throbbing that goes away when I don’t exercise ☹️🙃
Well done to you I used trainers that I did my usual weekend agility with but now having to consider new ones as signed up for a half Marathon in March 2020 in memory of my mum. This year has been a bit like that but hoping it will improve with functions coming up in December. Remember the advice run slow and drink plenty of water. If I could do this starting last January when 57 and graduated in March when I turned 58 sure you will. I love my lone running, with my music and Laura. Good luck and enjoy.
I must of been lucky as I rely on the five minute brisk warm up walk and that’s pretty much it and of course the five minute warm down walk I am usually a bit further away from home so maybe get just a little longer. Good luck
Good to hear that you’ve decided to do this. I started 2 weeks ago at 59yo, having never run before in my life (other than for a bus). I was totally daunted, but read the “How to” post and went for it. I make sure that I do the pre and post stretches (linked in the post), as I don’t want to get injured. I can also vouch for the excellent advice “go slow, and then slower again” as had a slight problem this week (W2) with sore glutes. I’m currently using old trainers, but intend to treat myself to new shoes if I get to the end of W4. Have fun!
Good advice already given but welcome!! Well done on your great decision to make healthy lifestyle changes. Keep posting and we will support you every step of the way. 👍👏🎈
Hey Sammy how is your running going? I had a 2 week break after my 1st run and had to start over....but 2nd time round I'm feeling motivated....w3r3 coming up tomorrow.... Just checking in with you, hope all good!
