Losing inches...

Something happened today and I thought only people in this forum would understand me... A bit of background: I didn't start c25k to lose weight, actually I started changing my lifestyle and trying to be healthier one year before I started c25k so I've been losing weight slowly for some time now. But with the running I'm also losing some inches around my waist.

Second important piece of background: I run with very nice light joggers, not tight, no lace. I'm large enough for them to stay in place (you can see where this is going)

So today I started my run, I had planned a speed workout with four repetitions. Something felt funny the first repetition, but it was the first time I was doing that type of run. Now during the second... I caught my joggers before I was completely publicly embarrassed, and had to stop and tight a strange knot so they wouldn't fall!!

Once recovered of the surprise, I'm pretty happy about it, but I've learnt my lesson, next pair will have a lace!!

I don't think I could do that, is be too stressed thinking of what can happen!

It’s a lovely feeling losing those inches. I’ve lost 2.5 stone since January. It has helped so much with my running. Enjoy the rest of your journey and congratulations on your success so far.

You must be doing something thing right. Well done. I too had a problem with my old capris that didn’t have a lace. V difficult to run while holding your pants up. 😂

May we call you 27 for short? It’s a good feeling having to buy tighter running bottoms.

27 is fine, I should have used a proper name first time I logged in...

You can change your name in your profile once I believe...

Just checked, it's twice. Its under settings in your profile, down the bottom.

I had the same thing with L leggings crawling down, couldn't believe it, went to M and ended up with it happening again. I still feel a bit weird ordering stuff in S or tiny sizes, I feel like it won't fit when it comes but am very pleased when they do!

Just wait till you start wearing shorts! (Never thought I would either!) 👍🏻😁

2718281Graduate in reply toGoGo_JoJo

I don't know about shorts... But I've been looking at 3/4!!

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoGraduate in reply to2718281

That's how it starts! I went from full to 3/4, then tried a long short and now run around in what I would have called skimpy!!! I've been taken over by aliens with no modesty! 🤣🤣🤣

2718281 profile image
2718281Graduate in reply toGoGo_JoJo

Oh!! I'm writing it down now so my future me will know I was wrong! I can't believe I will ever go further than 3/4!!

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoGraduate in reply to2718281

👍🏻😁 also write "don't think I'll want to go past 5k/10k" "I just don't have time for longer runs" 🤣🤣🤣

I think i have already left that for history in another post :)

I do wonder if I might end up in shorts one day, I'm happy in my 3/4 as think I'd be too hot in full length. Maybe next summer!

That also happened to me a good few months back. My once fitting 3 quarter capri pants started falling down. So got more in a smaller size, but everything I buy now I make sure it has a drawstring to tighten . Great run and glad you didn't flash your bum 😊😂

2718281Graduate in reply toBuddy34

I knew I would get people who understand here!! Drawstrings are a minimum requirement from now on 😆

Even went down the lycra route recently and yes they have a drawstring also

What a fantastic revelation! 😊

I too am no Kate moss and did think at the start of this that I would hopefully lose weight, but I'm also looking at inches around the waist instead. I haven't had a set of scales (or "the sad step" as I've heard them called- How true!) For a couple of years now and it's so liberating! I was always an overweight child and teen and we had them in our bathroom so I would weigh myself daily and be permantly sad about it and because we always had them I continued to have them as an adult as I thought they were an essential bathroom item. I have a 9 year old and I'm happy that she hasn't yet really known what scales are and I don't want her to get hung up on checking that number like I always did.

I'm trying to wait til I finish this weekend to check my waist measurement again, but even if it's only gone down by 1 inch I'm going to try to not be bothered about it. The biggest change has already happened, and that is that I now run for 30 mins 3 times a week and that won't stop after I graduate! 😊

Wow, that's really great for your little girl! There is so much pressure on society, it's really good that she doesn't see it at home, she is lucky to have you!

ChoosingHappy profile image
ChoosingHappyGraduate in reply to2718281

Wow thank you! Yes it's terrifying in a way, I keep seeing these oopma loompa faced teens and think please don't be one of those girls!!

My mum always yo-yo'd with her weight so maybe that influenced me and my feelings about being bigger? It's always annoyed me how hung up people get about how much they weigh and "I'm on a diet" etc. I've tried to eat healthier now and again over the years but have always faught against being one of those people who inspects the content on any food item before deciding if they can eat it. Eat the chocolate, just not all day every day!

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate in reply toChoosingHappy

The word diet isn't very good. For me I changed what I eat forever not the short term and it works and I still have 1 take away a week . 😊😊

ChoosingHappy profile image
ChoosingHappyGraduate in reply toBuddy34

I agree. And why do we say "I'm being good" or "being naughty" in reference to what we're eating? Awful mindset we've been raised with!!

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate in reply toChoosingHappy

At first I cut out all chocolate as that's how I put on 4st 5 I was really addicted to it. Now if I want it I buy 1 small bar instead of a 7 pack😂. I do eat bread , wholemeal with nuts and seeds and I have cereal like weetabix and special k. A lot of these 'diets ' tell you, you shouldn't eat these but everything I've done works for me . I've lost over 3st now and I love running so it helps.😊

ChoosingHappy profile image
ChoosingHappyGraduate in reply toBuddy34

That's brilliant- well done! There's absolutely no way I could ever cut out chocolate completely but I've stopped buying multiple which then call to me of an evening from the kitchen so that helps a lot! 😊

This is so great, my mum was always obsessed with my weight- shes always been slim so I think it bothered her that I wasnt so much. But obsessing over the numbers didn't make me lose weight, and certainly didnt make me feel any better about myself!! Good for you.

My mum told me when I was about 13 that I'll never be thin as i have my dad's build. Thanks!! 👍

I love this forum! You're all brilliant 😁💕 27, you'd probably get some creative suggestions for a new user name if you asked - but you have some important leggings shopping to do first 😉

Great story :-) I've been running 3 times a week for about 15 months now. I wasn't too worried about my weight (as my BMI was in the 'healthy' range) but I was concerned about my waist measurement which put me in an increased risk category for diabetes/stroke etc. I am delighted to report that although I have only lost about 3kg my waist measurement has reduced by 2 or 3 inches and when I put on some old shorts to do some gardening this week I had to catch them to stop them falling. Delighted !
