I graduated 6 months ago and still run 3 times per week varying my runs . Sometimes I'm still getting breathless . I'm really not running fast . So for the people been doing this a lot longer than me , do you have any suggestions 😊

How hard are you pushing it ?

Can you breath in really deeply while you are running (down to your stomach) ?

I'm struggling to breathe properly sometimes. But I put the screenshot of my last run to show I'm not going fast or am I missing something 😊

I try not to sweat my breathing too much. If I go faster than usual or if I'm dehydrated then I find it harder. I mouth breathe...nose breathing during exercise is something I have never managed.

I do make sure before I start that I can get air all the way down (I have seasonal asthma) and try and empty all the stale air out of my lungs before starting (I cough but someone suggested breathing out like trying to mist up a mirror). I don't start until I can breathe properly...all the way down to my toes (so to speak) and I try and maintain deeper breathing throughout. If I start shallow breathing the gremlins come and visit. I don't count breaths or inhalations though.

I do end out of breath but it comes back pretty quick.

My comfortable pace is around 45 mins for 5k. My 10k took me 91 mins. So I do really slow comfortable pootling most of the time.

Thanks. I do try to do the mixture of nose and mouth breathing. I guess I will need to try harder even try slowing down more . Anything to make it more comfortable 😊

Pootling is great!

You don’t have to go fast, you just have to go.

My best 5K is 46. So well done you!

Just back from a run and found out I can go slower and breathe better. I think I just thought I've been running for 10 months now I shouldn't be out of breath . But I've still got to learn a lot and I have today 😊

Slow down is the only answer for immediate effect.

If you want to improve your aerobic fitness though you will need to get out of breath sometimes. Intervals, Fartleks, faster shorter runs, hills. It's not so disheartening getting out of breath when you do it on purpose.

I was doing 2 hills on 2 runs a week just to see if I could I've been doing them for a few months . I now know I can do them so now going to concentrate on pace and breathing to try and do longer distances . 😊😊

Just an update on this I posted this morning. I went out for my run and I really thought about my pace and my breathing and my run was great . If I felt my breathing was getting fast I slowed down . I think It just took for me to actually write it down in a post to see it in words and to really think about what I was doing and it really helped. Thank you to all who replied . 😊😊😊

Great !!

It's nice to know you CAN go faster though : ) but also nice to have a "go to" pace when it gets tough
