I graduated this time last year, did the consolidation runs and then just stopped! I so regretted it as I lost all that new-found fitness that I loved. Started again 7 weeks ago - (tomorrow wk7 run2) but need some tips on maintaining motivation once the excitement of getting to the next stage is reached and Laura or Jo are no longer with me pushing me to keep going. The mantra "The hardest part is getting out of the door" is very useful for me!
Use it or lose it: I graduated this time last... - Couch to 5K
Use it or lose it
Join the “bridge210k” forum. Full of previous graduates. Even if you’re happy @ 5k, they continue to give encouragement and advice.
I am currently “consolidating” my program. I stopped using the app/podcasts which I thought would be difficult, but it was, in my opinion, easier as you are no longer anticipating the “prompts” and you can take in your surroundings and sounds.
You need to decide on where your running journey takes you, do you want to run further, faster or both?
Bridge to 10k will assist in both, or you can just run for 30 minutes 3 times a week, devise your own plan, look online for other plans, etc (I must say the JuJu 10k plan looks good and achievable.
I graduated 2 years ago and had to stop for health issues, I started again in May and graduated again a few weeks ago, I hated no being able to run.
My goals are:
Short term - repeatable sub 40 minute 5k - I'm 22 stone so I'm being fitness, pace and distance
Medium term - bridge to 10k
Long term - not sure on this one yet, I graduated so that was my first short term goal gone.
Try it, you never know.
parkrun- that’s my motivation. I run twice during the week and parkrun every Saturday morning. Sometimes I try for a new PB, sometimes I just do a nice easy 5K, sometimes I go and visit a different parkrun. Give it a go when you graduate and it’s a great way to meet people and make new friendships.
