Hi

We’re up to week 4 and my wife is considerably slower than me. Due to my long longs..

so she is worried that when we run for the full 30 minutes will she have actually completed the distance of 5 k..

Any thoughts

C25K should really be called ‘learn how to run for 30 minutes’ but they went for the sexier title! Very few of us run 5k when we graduate. This really is about learning to run for duration, don’t worry about distance or speed at this point. The most important thing is to complete each run at whatever pace you need to finish.

I’m a very slow runner - I run using the Japanese slow jogging technique. I saw the film in W6 & had been struggling with the durations. But after I found this way of running I’ve embraced my 🐌 and plod away!

It took me 6 weeks of consolidation to feel comfortable with the 30 min run, then I added time and I’ve once run a 5k in 45 mins, it mostly takes me 50. But here’s a thing - running this Japanese slow running style - you burn the same calories running 5k in 30 mins as 50 - it’s the distance that’s important! Here’s the film if Mrs SonMik wants to try this lovely slow style out properly. I can now run for over an hour (not had a lick of pain or trouble & was very unfit & about to hit 53 when I started), that wouldn’t be poss any other way. It’s also a great way of building strength and stamina - many top athletes train at this pace for that reason.

Hope it helps!

Anyway point is - don’t worry - just focus on finishing each run, and go as slowly as needed to do this!

It is like the polar opposite of the Olympic sport of speed walking 🚶‍♀️ 😂

She just needs to run for 30 minutes... and not for 5K... so either way it will be fine:)

C25K is definitely a better sounding title than Couch 2 Running Continuously for 30mins (or C2RF30M lol) - you just need to follow the programme (repeating a run or wk if necessary) and end up running for 1/2hr - the rest will then follow 🤗 x

Well... she may not. A bit like my long shanks other half and me. Not being negative but this is what can happen:

Hubby: we’re running 25 mins anyway let’s just go for it.

Me:no. Follow the program.

Hubby then runs on when I stop.

I will need time to get there but that is ok because I will do this at some point.

Hubby now has an injured calf muscle. Be like me, follow the program.
