Hoping I wont give up

Hi I'm nikki I only started the 5k on the 5 July I'm doing it to get healthy and to lose weight,I have enjoyed the first one but hoping I will carry on and push through any tips to keep going would be great because I am very quick at giving up on exercise due to the muscle ache and confidence.

Tip no.1 - Have a positive mental attitude. Don’t say I hope I won’t give up. You should change your mindset to I am going to do this. In 3 months time I’m going to be a different person. I’m going to be fit and healthy and I’ll be running for 30 minutes 3 times per week.

You can do this. We all started from where you are now. Some of us are running 5K and 10K and some are even training for marathons and half marathons.

No reason why you should give up! Think of the reasons why you started, focus on the good stuff. You might not lose weight but you will probably change shape and become more streamlined! Take it slow, stay hydrated, read the pinned post here on the forum for new runners - it’s full of good advice and stuff you need to know. Also take a look at a clip on YouTube about Japanese Slow Running- it’s really good (and completely bonkers) and loads of us here have adopted it as our running style! Stick with it and get addicted! And most important- don’t forget to let us know how you get on!

Welcome. Of course you can do it. If you can do the first one , you can do the rest. Be positive . Say things like , I am running . I will do it . Have all your kit ready ( clothes , music , head phones) etc so you have no excuse . Plan when you are going to do it , and stick to it . If you don’t “feel” like it , do it anyway and you will be surprised how you enjoy it . Keep coming on here for advise , people here are very supportive.

Well done for starting your journey! There is great support here. If you post when you run or if you need motivation, there are lots of great people with great reasons to keep going.

But, this is for and about you and like the add says: you’re worth it! 💪🙂👍

You can do it. The coaching and encouragement on the c25k app is just great. Plan when you're going to run stick to it and get out there. I used to like a bag of crisps and glass of wine after work, now I go running! Enjoy this journey 😊

You can do it! It is much more addictive than you would think and the need to go out and have ago at the next run is something that sneaks up on you xx

Welcome. It really can be a case of dragging your butt to the startlines for a few weeks until the addiction kicks in. Set some goals... give yourselves a small reward for beating a week... and remember why you are here. You can do this... enjoy your journey.

Always remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for ! Take it slow and steady. And if you want to lose weight too, make sure you eat healthily - this in itself is not a weight loss programme. Have fun out there!

You can do this. I have found having thr structure of the plan really helpful....I am the type of person who would stop because I was getting a bit tired, a bit achy, out of breath....any reason really so following a plan that told me what to do and how long for is great. I enjoy the feeling of completing each week (about to finish wk7) and although I have not lost any weight it seems to me that my legs and strangely my arms are getting a bit leaner. Go for it!
