Very disappointing 😞

Ran tonight run 2 of week 7 within a few minutes my legs felt tight and painful and felt like I could barely lift my feet off the ground. Extremely slow run, seemed like I was hardly moving but I didn’t stop just went slow. Rest now till Sunday and hope that one is better

Don’t worry! You did so well to keep going and should be so proud of yourself. Give yourself a few days rest like you say and move on on Sunday. You should be really pleased 🏃🏻‍♀️❤️

Thanks. I’m pleased I managed to keep going even though it was slow just disappointed because I had such an energetic run Tuesday and it was great. I know they can’t all be good, it’s part of the journey isn’t it x

Hey RI78, I wrote a post about leg fatigue, sounds like you might have that. Another member Lynsh posted something yesterday and we put a lot of links on it related to leg fatigue during running, it’s actually a thing, and we can help ourselves xx

Oh really? I’ll try and find it and look at the links thanks x

Sounds like poor hydration. You should drink 2.5-3 litres of water daily to stay hydrated. Sometimes people don't link headaches, dizziness and feeling tired with the fact that they are on the edge of dehydration. Many will say that they drank lots of coffee and tea (diuretics), beer even (don't even go there), and ate lots of, l dunno, easy-peel nectarines. What you need is water. No water - no function. No function - no running.

Thanks I’ll try and drink more. I’ve got a large water bottle of which I have 2 at least a day but going to measure just how much it actually holds to see if it’s enough. Never suffered before just tonight-strange 🤔

Disappointing? That's outstanding! Probably the best run you've done. That runs shows you have the determination/will to push through when it hurts. You're a fighter! 🥊💪

Great job getting that run done, it would have been so easy to stop the run. Hope you’re proud of yourself, sometimes it’s tough out there.

As above on the hydration front... my tracker adds extra from 2 litres at the rate of 250ml per half hour of workout... and I’m tanking on extra on top of that too because of the warm weather.

First of all, don’t despair! Anyone who has been through this process will tell you that some runs are just like that. Don’t overthink it, just get back up and try again after a rest. Tight legs could also mean you need to do more stretches. For me developing a good habit of stretching before and certainly after a run was revolutionary. There are some official couch to 5k ones you could try: nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/h...

All the best! Neil

I felt a bit disappointed over my run today too, and my other half, a very experienced runner, said, "It was good for you to feel like that. It's good for you to know what it feels like to go through that." I asked him if I should break my leg so I know how that feels too! 😆 But seriously, he said you have to learn how it feels when it's really hard and you just dig deep and do it anyway, that it would stand me in good stead for the future. Of course, this is coming from an ultra marathoner who is used to having to dig a lot deeper than I will have to for an occasional parkrun, but I take his point. 😄 I'm definitely going to focus on hydration and nutrition before the next run, and put today's run behind me. Onwards and upwards.
