Have you heard of virtual running challenges?

What do people think of virtual running challenges? I wouldn’t say no to a medal! I’m going to leave a couple links what other c25k members have shared with me recently from the Facebook group... have a look and let me know your thoughts... it would certainly keep up the momentum after graduation and some donate your entry fee to charity, which is nice.

It would have been nice to get a medal from NHS for c25k 😆

I signed up for Race at Your Pace for May and well on my way to a medal now. Alongside c25k I'm raising money for Parkinsons UK, a charity very close to my heart.

I'm signing up for 50 miles in June to keep me motivated. Just recommended this website to someone here who was struggling x

Ah brilliant Lynsh, good luck!

I like the raceatyourpace site, I’m definitely looking at that one, it has over 170K runners too!

Doing some of these races alone takes some of the big race pressure off 👍

I completed C25k at New Year and knew I needed something to keep me going, so I signed up to a virtual event: awesome virtual running (awesomevirtualrunning.com/) have monthly and year-long ones: I signed up to the year-long. Individuals can do 1000miles or 100miles/month 😱 but I signed up for the website’s team so my annual target is 200miles. Currently on track for 300 but as my long run mileage has gone up I may well get more. There’s a medal with four magnetic quarters. They also gave a Facebook chat group but it is full of people who smash well over 100miles/month so I’m just a lurker there! It’s working for me 👍

Molly that’s so ace!!! I wish you the very best and I may check out that site too xx

... and here I sit and boast about my 5k runs 3 times a week while someone does 100miles a month.

If you make it to 400, I will send you a virtual medal 😎

Haha! You’ll be surprised how it mounts up... 3x3 miles every week is 468...

Whoa! I am actually surprised by that. I never did that math and now I feel proud. Yearly 500 is doable. Very cool. And thanks

3times 5k a week is a lot in my reading.

I can't imagine I can do that much. 3x5k.

Keep up with it if you can. 🏃

Oh, a C25K medal would be brilliant! I have signed up for a virtual running challenge in August, someone posted the link on here and I thought it might help me to stay motivated during the summer holidays. It costs about £12 and some of the money goes to charity. virtualrunneruk.com/product... There are lots of different ones on the website. I think if I enjoy it, then I will make it a regular thing every couple of months.

My primary reservation about some of these events is that only a small proportion of the money you pay actually goes to the charities..........I would rather make a direct donation myself. Best to check before signing up.

Many people do these, enjoy them and get a lot out of it..........I am just a curmudgeon who has no place for bling in his life........it takes all sorts.

Better to run an actual race then hey..

I personally do not like the idea of the virtual run as it offers no motivation to me. Also, only a part of the amount makes it to a charity. Instead I can give the full amount to the cause and run as usual. The digital certificate or a medal is least bit helpful.

Thanks for the idea. I didn't know about virtual races or challenges.

Yes I agree a c25k medal and we can pay for it 😊

Little Miss UMN has about 10 medals from race at your pace... she’s still a kid but is now on adult challenges and collecting compression tops to go with her medals... keeps her motivated and I can’t buy a decent compression top cheaper, so it’s saving my wallet too!

I do Race at Your Pace and love it. It helped enormously in keeping me motivated to find time to exercise daily before I started C25K (and now all my exercise is geared around either running or doing something to improve my fitness for running!) I've got four medals hanging in my kitchen (3 x 50miles, 1 x 25miles) and I'm at 54 miles this month - I count walks, hikes and runs together, the medals are exactly the same for both walking and running challenges so why not? I really had to push for the 25 mile one - March was an insanely busy month, I was pulling my hair out with work, but I somehow found the time so I know it definitely works for me as a motivator. I'm planning to get all 12 for this year plus the one at the end of the year that lists my total miles for 2019. Probably won't carry on with it next year, this feels like just a 2019 project to go with my overarching health and fitness goals for 2019, but for now, it's great.

Hey Sarigne, I've been thinking about this a lot today and I think it would be a great challenge for the next few months to ensure I don't just graduate and never run again! I have known people who just do the challenge and then move onto something else and leave running altogether, I don't want to be "that person" haha. I'm turning 40 next month and I think this will really help, I'd love to clock 50 miles, but will start with 25 miles xx Thank you for your input xx

Jaojao I’m going to invest in Race at your pace after I finish as I was one of those runners post C25K who stopped approx 3 years ago. So I’ve decided I need a goal to keep going - good luck 😊

JaoJao in reply tosuebuzz

Maybe we can do June together?? You can start off with 25 miles, and if you increase in that month you can let them know a few days before the deadline. It's pretty good incentive x

I’m going to sign up today 🙌

MedalMad is another one. I did a few of these when I started and also after my ankle injury to get me back into it again. Great medals and some good running tops with some of them too.

I’ve signed up to 25 miles next month with race at your own pace. I’ll hopefully graduate first week of June and this challenge can spur me on during consolidation and beyond, I want it to be a lifetime habit.

This is something I was looking at doing too. Just to keep me motivated. I am currently on week seven but thought about signing up for June. If you set up a Facebook group I would be interested

We can do a message board on here, there is a c25k Facebook group with 3k users, messages get lost all over the place.
