Feeling fed up of over 3 decades of chronic back pain, which ruled my life on and off, I decided to try couch to 5k on the premise how much worse could I feel?
It’s my C25K first anniversary on May 4th and despite a few back flare ups, chest infections x 3, I was determined to see this anniversary running regularly 3 x a week, with a 5K at the weekend. Finally achieved my 5K today! I’ll never be the fastest, will never do a marathon (or half), may do a 10K (we’ll see), but this has been my marathon, achieving something I never in a million years felt was possible. And pain? Still around on the periphery, but so much better, so much more manageable and recoveries quicker.
For those of you embarking on this journey for whatever reason, stick with it, try to enjoy it (you won’t all the time), it works.
Happy running peeps 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏻♂️.

A really nice inspiring post from you Dralimc, if you are like me who from time to time also through the years have had slight back problems, however, since I started exercising more vigorously a few years ago my back problems have almost completed gone, perhaps its the 🏃 runs I do rather than the 🚴 cycling I did, well I still do a little cycling but not as often or far as I did years ago.
Thank you. Yes, I just wished that I’d never listened to people who said you can never run. The other day I couldn’t sit for more than 10 mins, had to lie down on the office floor. Felt rubbish, went for a tentative run in the evening, did 4K, felt great, pain and stiffness gone. For me it’s been a life changer 😊
Well done Dramlic. I started on 23 May following a fractured vertebra(which is a lot less serious than your issue). My motivation was that I wasn't ready to sit around getting old and unfit. So glad that I made the right decision. I have managed to get to 10k, maintaining the C25k philosophy of going slowly to start with and building up distance gradually (ju-ju's plan)...and I never give my back a second thought. If you fancy doing it, 5 to 10 is a lot easier than 0 to 5. You are a runner now after all.😊👏👏👏👏
Thank you! I was intent on doing Ju-ju’s plan in September but had to take 3 weeks off with back and make a gradual return. I have half an eye on a local 10k race in November. Long way off!
So nice to see you Dralimc 🤩🤩🤩! So fabulously well done for taking on the challenge and going for it! I’ve not been out for quite some time, but I just had to pop in to say hi and send a virtual hug. 😁❤️❤️❤️
