Bottled out!

Couldn’t face my first Park Run for the graduation run! After sleeping badly and sound advice from my daughter (an experienced 10k runner) I decided to wait until I complete and embed my times/distance over the coming weeks!

However, that aside I have completed the programme and now feel very pleased and proud. When I think back to a cold day in January when I went for my initial run with my daughter I was gasping for air and struggling to complete (still struggle now for the first 5mins but I keep going knowing I’ll enjoy it eventually)

Can’t praise the programme enough and the advice and support from this forum. Thankyou 😀

Nice Post from you GoldenYears, you'll get there soon, as I have told so many times to runners that they don't have to do the whole course in 9 weeks, they can repeat any runs or week's as they wish to, good luck to you for your runs until hopefully not too long in the future and with the help of your daughter you graduate

Hi AlMorr

Will try Park Run in the very near future (everyone is so positive about it)

Did manage to complete the programme though and it feels 👍.

Just having a couple of days off before beginning consolidation runs which I’m looking forward to.

Thanks so much for all your support and encouragement.

Congratulations Goldenyears, even if you didn’t do it at parkrun. You have run 30 minutes 3 times and have graduated.

But don’t be put off parkrun, unless yours is a particularly difficult one. At the age of 60 I started parkrun as my first post graduation run by doing it with my week 9 app, walking the 1st 5 minutes before running, and walking at the end. I have been doing parkrun ever since, just love it.

Thanks for this Dexy5, I will do a park run in the near future as I think I’ll really enjoy the atmosphere. Think I was a bit embarrassed about the thought of coming in last ( have to get over this!) sounds like you just got on with it and stuck to your plan regardless 😀

Looking forward to my practice runs now, I’ve certainly been bitten by the running bug.

You never come in last, whatever your time - that’s what Tailwalkers do. 😂😂

Most parkruns have people who walk the whole distance. Yes the tail walker will be last, but you won’t be near the tail walker if you run for 30 minutes. If you walk the first five minutes then you find you have more space, and also you then get to run past the faster walkers while hardly anyone passes you as everyone faster than you had already got well ahead of you while you were walking. It gets you past that self consciousness on your first one. By your third parkrun you won’t care about that stuff any more.

Thanks for this sound advice Arthur JG, it’s good to know the set up. I’ll definitely have a go as I think I’ll enjoy the buzz from ‘fellow runners’ and the supportive atmosphere.

Might be a bit outdated to reply to this...

As Dexy5 says there are some more difficult parkruns.

Choose a flat one to start with. Is Poolbrook far from you?

Rother Valley Country Park?

Regarding the speed, that's the good thing about parkrun. They don't judge.

And I think to myself that I am slower if I sit at home.

Thanks Elisabeth3, I’ll check them out.

Just enjoying my consolidation runs at the moment ~ 3 last week and 2 so far this week. Still clocking up 3km on 30 minutes but I’m enjoying it and happy to plod along for a while.

Hope to see you on the parkrun. Let me know if /when.

I am nervous before each, still a big thing for me.

Three runs a week is amazing.

Hi Golden years, I was going to do the same until my niece told me that our particular PR is difficult as one half is run on sand and the other over sand dunes! I will give it a shot after consolidation I think :)

Sounds like a plan😀 haven’t tried running on sand yet (what a work out) Think I was just trying to rush things! How many runs have you done since graduation? I’ve just had 2 days rest but will venture out tomorrow.

Not what you're looking for?
