Still learning!

So I got gait analysis before I started c25k and was fitted with Brooks road shoes which are still brilliant. However when I decided I needed something for mud and trails I went online and using sense (I thought) I bought the same size as my road shoes albeit from another brand. I got a great deal and they have served me exceedingly well. So well I ordered another pair at a bargain price for when the first ones wore out (they were showing signs having been through a lot of mud and wet runs).

However, having now got up to the 2hr+ runs my 2nd toe on my right foot is being squashed. Now given it does not protrude beyond my big toe I didn't really think about sizing at first... after a 13 mile run yesterday, 10 mins before the end I could feel the discomfort and when I got my shoes off I could see pressure marks on the end of my toe.

Today I've checked and compared both Brooks and Saucony sizing charts and their 5.5 UK sizes differ by .5cm in actual length. 24.5 for Brooks and 24 for Saucony.

So although they felt good, over long distances that .5cm has made all the difference.

Always check the actual length of a size rather than fixate on the number and just because shoes have seemed ok until now doesn't mean they were right for you.

I also now have a brand new pair of Ladies Saucony Peregrine 7 trail shoes that are no good to me so if anyone wants a real bargain and needs a UK 5.5 24cm trail shoe send me a message. Full product details m.startfitness.co.uk/saucon...

On the up side I have yet more new shoes on the way 🤣

Happy running! 👍😁

There will probably be some brands that just won't fit you, so always safer to stick to what you know, especially if buying over the net.

Weirdly they were great, right up to say 1.5hrs running. Really couldn't fault them. It's only as the runs are getting longer that I've seen any issue at all. Could have kicked myself when I double checked the boxes and the length is there clear as day.

Not lost the nail and its only a bit red so hopefully caught it before too much damage done 👍

My run shop recommended the brand and style, they just didn't fit them.

I’ve even noticed a difference in fit between different colours of the same shoe- so frustrating! Did you have a thumbs width in front of your toes when standing up?

That’s what my running shop advises.
