Does anyone with asthma have any tips about this programme?

Welcome to the forum.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and advises that if you have any underlying health conditions that you check out the implications of doing C25K with your health professionals.
Many have done this plan with asthma and some have reported an improvement of the condition.
Take care and enjoy the journey.
I don’t have regular asthma but have been prone to viral asthma for the past few winters. I started C25k last September, took 6 months to get through, and have been asthma free this year. Just take it slow and steady. If you’re suffering, slow down more. Even now I still walk as fast as I run - this is literally not a sprint, but a (potential) marathon 😄
Hi SEAVINGTON and welcome to the programme! Firstly, definitely get checked out first by your GP or asthma nurse. They will be able to give you the best advice.
Meanwhile, here's my experience, FWIW.
I was diagnosed with exercised-induced asthma mid C25K, which annoyed me greatly However, what I've learned now means that I can run without any worries at all, although I have to say my asthma is never really bad.
I never, ever go out without my inhaler
I always take 2 puffs of ventolin before I go, ideally 30 mins before, even if I feel fine
If it's cold, or I'm running by a dusty road, or it's very pollen-y, I might take 3
If I have a cold, I don't run, it's that simple
I keep several inhalers - always one in the car, for if I drop my running one (happened once)
Take it gently until you find what works for you. You will get used to it, but listen to your body, ,and especially your breathing
If your GP/nurse chunters about running and inhalers, swap GP/nurse until you find one who runs
Hope you get it sorted. Happy running!
Many thanks for your help and advice which Infiund really helpful. I took a couple of puffs before my first run and had my inhaler with me. It's very reassuring to know that other asthmatics run regularly and survive the experience ! After a winter of chest infections I feel quite vulnerable. Thanks again.
I had very mild asthma but it went within 3 weeks of starting c25k 👌🏽
I’ve completed the plan in the past and starting again. It definitely helps with my asthma! The programme works on a slow and steady approach with really helps build the strength of the chest and lessens the need for inhalers!
