Today’s running buddy texted me first thing to say her dog has kennel cough.
So Merlin and I set off on our own, in glorious sunshine, after having got stuck in the car fielding phone calls from my son for 10 minutes while it rained outside!
My plan to actually run the whole 28 minutes of Week 8: Run 3, were soon spoiled by other dogs enjoying the sunshine who each seemed to have independently decided to bound over to greet us, but I kept us moving as much as I could - and of course I had to pause to let Merlin have a drink.
Screenshot as proof - it were needed - that Canicrossing is not always the quickest option
Hmmm, I just realised that that only says 26:30 on it... DRAT! I have no clue how that happened.
EDIT: it was Merlin’s water break! I set a timer for my run and slowed down when the beeper went off 🤦♀️🤦♀️ And the tracker shows moving time.

i prefer to run with my dog but why do random dog owners amble in the middle of the path, cant they see i have all the gear and am on a mission ? not always practicle to go less busy places.i have started to call out `coming through`
I was near the river running on footpaths alongside actual fields! Ambling wasn’t my problem, so much as several people (professional dog walkers) having large groups of dogs who were already excited. And of course I was heading towards all of them 🤦♀️ Only one of them saw me getting closer and bent down to put a couple of hers on, which gave me the opportunity to move off the path and give her the space we both needed.
You could really deflate her and tell her it’s entirely possible to take part without owning one yourself.
But having a dog of your own is infinitely better 😊
There’s actually a Facebook group called something like Canicross dogs for Rehoming, where people share the details of dogs that are in rescue who they think have potential.
I wasn’t allowed a dog when I was a child, but I was so desperate - made worse by my much older siblings telling me they were going to ‘see a man about a dog’ when they didn’t want me to know where they were off to. 🤦♀️
If she’s old enough for you to be able to adopt a rescue dog I’d heartily recommend it, they have a lot of love to give (with the added bonus that you won’t have to wait for a puppy to be old enough to run).
