Grumpy old man but I'aint giving up !

I've been running for two years now and imho, I've achieved some great things - 46 parkruns, of which two were in Cape Town and one in the UK. volunteered 16 times, mainly when I was injured :-( and last Sep, I ran my first 10km in just over an hour for a charity hospice in Stoke. This is all thanks to the NHS C25K and this forum and I'm really grateful. I had to restart C25K several times due to achilles injuries in both heels but a podiatrist fixed this with an analysis and some insoles for my shoes. Recently I've been getting calf injuries so I've taking it easy but yesterday I attempted a parkrun again after a three week absence. I even did some warmups before I left home and walked for 10 mins at the beginning of the park run before starting a 3min run/1 min walk. Ok for 3km and then disaster - left ankle and right calf exceeded my running pain level (4/10) and I had to abandon as I was struggling even to walk ! Pretty devastated but I'm not giving up (I'm 67 next month ) and booked appointment with a sports clinic and my podiatrist. BUT its not all bad as I can cycle and had a great bike run last week across the border in Switzerland. Also I am sure I'll be back with Jo Whiley restarting C25K pretty soon. The best of luck to you all in your running and I hope to be running through the pearly gates when my time comes ;-) Sorry for the long post and the sun's out now so I'll see if I can manage a quick cycle.

Nice to read about your very international journey. So glad you’re determined to keep going. I too like the combo of run & cycle - seem to fit together really well. (But I don’t have the glamorous locations!) Good luck with the recovery.

thanks and probably most memorable run was the 10k running round Stoke city centre - not a glamorous location ;-)
