Ouch!

I slowed my pace down and totally smashed W6R3 today. BUT for the last 5 minutes I had an uncomfortable pain in my right leg. It didn’t feel specific to any muscle but my leg almost felt weak as well. I was totally fine when doing the cool down walk. I stretched out at home and the only thing that seemed right was my calf muscle which was tighter then the left. Does anyone have any thoughts? Never had any problems before and otherwise it was a great run!

Well done.

I would recommend a very thorough stretching regime such as those linked to in the guide to the plan.

Many, if not most, of us have asymmetries and stretching well immediately after your cool down walk, while muscles are supple and flexible is a good way to keep them minimal.

The classic "one sided" issue is when running on heavily cambered pavements or roads, where footstrike and gait is going to be shorter on one side than the other...........solution.........turn round and run an equal distance in the other direction.

Brilliant thanks for the advice. I do run on pavements but wait until I’ve got half way and turn around. I probably don’t stretch as much as I should, but off now to get fait analysis and running shoes.

When I have tight spots I like to use a roller or a spiky ball to massage those areas and iron out the tension. There are some good YouTube tutorials on foam rolling. Can be excruciatingly painful in a really good way! 🙂
