Emotional!

I have nowhere else to post this where people would understand (most people don't understand how hard this is when you're terribly unfit)

Anyway I just finished R2 W5 and as soon as I finished the last 8mins my eyes just built up and I almost cried.

I just thought back to how 5 weeks ago I was struggling to run for 1 minute and now I've just ran for 8!!

I don't know how people can dread W5 R3 after completing R2, I'm so excited to prove to myself I can do this!

I can't believe how well this challange works!

It's a great feeling isn't it? I've just done W5 R3 and was amazed. Keep at it

Congratulations on completing run 3 of week 5 Beginner-with-dog, onwards and upwards to week 6 run 1 but be careful about that run as it catches out some people with the interval walks and runs.

Thank you, though my archilles is aching a bit tonight. Tomorrow is the rest day, so may play W6 R1 by ear!

Well done you. Keep it slow and you will find that this plan builds you up slowly and works. We all have tough runs but get through them and you will feel so much better afterwards, we also have good runs which feel great from start to finish.

Good luck with your next run 🙂🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Well done, you should be pleased with yourself! I think a lot of people assume that they can run for 5’ continuously but the reality I suspect is quite different! I thought when I started, well surely running one minute will be easy. Yep I was wrong!

Enjoy run 3, it’s fab, just take it slow!

Running_Giraffe profile image
Running_GiraffeGraduate in reply to Couchpotato2

100% I always felt like week 1 and 2 would be easy because how hard can running for 90 seconds be but the reality is its tough for someone who doesn't move much anyway. I'm defo taking R3 slow, it's helped me through weeks 3 and 4 by slowing down the pace

Couchpotato2 profile image
Couchpotato2Graduate in reply to Running_Giraffe

Yes 😆 and then you start the 60’ and it’s like, surely it’s over now? ... now? Wait that rest feels shorter than my run, how is that possible? ;-)

It takes time to really understand that slow is slow but it really does help. If you cried at run 2 what is going to happen post run 3...

Great job don't worry about how you feel it does get emotional sometimes when you actually realise you can do this and you thought 1 minute was hard good luck with wk5r3

Well done to you Running Giraffe on completing week 4 of C25K. You are one of the few people who are looking forward to the challenge of running 20 minutes W5R3, good luck for that run, you know that you can do it. 😊 🏃

Enjoy your next run, you're doing great! 👍😁😉

At the start of this run Michael does say it's mental more than physical and it's so true. In week 1 I'd never believe I'd manage to run for 30 mins and now I'm believing it 😊

It sure is a mental challenge. I love how the programme makes you believe you can do it and then you can!!!!

Aw you'll smash it! I usually leave 2 days between run 2 and 3 but I want to do it tomorrow because I'm so excited for the challange!

It really does feel like a dream when I look back to how I felt week 1.

The weight loss is a bonus!!

Week 9 will be here before we know it!

Congratulations

I know how you feel - I just did W6R3 - 25 minutes non-stop (albeit slow lol)

previously I couldn't run 150 metres to the corner shop without gasping for breath

I still hurt (dodgy knees will always be an issue) but ti's amazing how well the programme actually works - I was scared of W5R3 but now am looking forward to W7 and 3 x 25 minutes because I know I can do it - all I want to do now is measure the distance and start to see that increase :)

Keep being awesome :)

Running_Giraffe profile image
Running_GiraffeGraduate in reply to SteveW1960

I understand, I have a singular dodgy knee and I run at a snails pace but to me it's still running. It's more than I've ever done before and that's what really counts.

We can work on pace with time!

I already mapped out 5k around my area on Google and I can't wait for the day I manage to run that entire route 😊

Enjoy week 7! I'm sure you'll smash it!

Remember week 5 from my previous attempt, it’s a huge milestone week and I probably got more emotional on this week than I did when I hit the 5k in week8.

A bad back Injury meant I didn’t get to complete week9 before but now fully recovered and on W5 R2 tonight, so determined to finish this program as I’ve the great north to do too!

Good luck for the rest of your runs

Running_Giraffe profile image

Sorry about the injury but well done on getting back out there! Not alot of people would've done that.

I wish I was brave enough to book a big run to aim for but maybe 2020, all the best on your training for the great North.

Enjoy your run tonight 😊

Running_Giraffe profile image

You'll be amazed at what you can achieve just by following the plan.

I was the exact same on week one, I remember my legs being on fire on the last few intervals thinking I'll never get better than this and thinking I'll need to repeat every week.

What I've learned so far is don't worry about pace and stretch afterwards even just for a few mins if you can x

Well done, you're doing brilliantly. Are you planning a good route for the 5:3? I'm at exactly the same point 5:3 tomorrow and I was dreading it but now I'm looking forward to the challenge. Amazing how quickly you improve isn't it? I had to repeat W1 I was SO unfit!

Running_Giraffe profile image
Running_GiraffeGraduate in reply to lattelass

It's quite unbelievable how quickly this challange improves people.

I have my runs planned that R1 and 2 each week is street running at night where there's street lights but on the weekend I can take R3 to a park since I'm off work and can run in daylight so it's the nicer run of them all.

I was debating repeating week 2 because that's were I struggled the most but the people on this group pushed me into going straight to week 3. I've found alot of people who don't understand how challenging this is when you're that unfit. Many people tell me just to run 5ks and parkruns as if it's that easy. I'm so thankful to have found this place because people understand just how hard running for 1minute was x

Kimyeo profile image
KimyeoGraduate

I get that, and miss it a bit! I'm now doing the 30' 3 times a week and slowly working up to a park run, nowhere near 5k at the moment. My first tears were the first 20 min run, what a tide of emotion that was! and I'm a bloke! I did it on the seafront whilst on holiday in Spain, (cool season..) At the end it was just pure exhilaration.. In week 1 I prayed for the end of 1 minute. At 63 with 2 new hips its a real boost in life, not just fitness. Grind on!

Running_Giraffe profile image
Running_GiraffeGraduate in reply to Kimyeo

Jeez your an inspiration!

I remember the praying and just wanting to here that voice saying I was to stop, the half way bell seemed to be hours away.

I wish I had the spanish seafront to run along but Scottish coast will have to do lol.

It's a life changing journey and one for the better 😊

Kimyeo profile image
KimyeoGraduate

I also wish I had the Spanish seafront more often! it was a one off, I just happened to be there on holiday when the 20 min came along. Scottish coast also sounds good! I did one on the seafront in Maidens near Girvan, that was also exhilarating, there's something about a lungful of sea air, anywhere! Most of the time I just have the Cambridgeshire countryside.. mercifully flat.

Keep grinding, looking forward to your graduation, you know you will...

That's fantastic! Well done. I must admit when I've done my runs and Sanjeev says 60 seconds left, I burst out laughing, and then again when I've finished. Bearing in mind I'm outside, in the dark, just me and my Jack Russell, Suzy. People must think I'm crazy.

Running_Giraffe profile image
Running_GiraffeGraduate in reply to JRTrunner

Aw what a great name! My girls name was Suzy, she'd have loved doing this challange with me. My new pups got bad hips or he'd be dragged out with me lol.

We're all a little crazy anyway, some people are just better at hiding it 😂
