Emotional confession!!

Determined55
Determined55Graduate

So, as some of you may remember, I haven’t told anyone I’m doing C25K (although a couple of neighbours have spotted me recently 🤦‍♀️).

I’ve just got a bit emotional confessing to my 17 year old son that I’ve been going running at 7am 3 days a week for the last 8 weeks before he gets up for his lessons. And he’s told me how impressed he is. High praise from a teenager! Not only that but he has promised to get up early on Friday to walk the first 5 minutes with me and then see me at the finish line for a hero’s welcome when I graduate.

You can guarantee I really will speed up for that last 60 seconds!! Getting teary thinking about it now ☺️

Look what this programme has done to me!

I will - extra incentive now 😃!

Hehehe, isn't it great to surprise them- what a good reaction though, offering to get up early for a teen is a huge sacrifice! All the best for a great graduation run🙌👏

Determined55
Determined55Graduate in reply to Voldatort

Oh it’s a massive sacrifice. He loves his bed and drags himself out to his laptop to get to registration every morning 😳

I clerk for school Governors, we are hugely appreciative of parents issues currently to get them to attend online! All heroes. (I'm pleased my four all now left home)!

Determined55
Determined55Graduate in reply to Voldatort

Oh that’s interesting - I’m a chair of governors (primary). Sometimes my son is ‘attending’ registration still sat in bed with a hoody on but he always makes it to lessons at a desk - it’s the best I can hope for 🤣

Awww that is fabulous. A how good of him to want to watch you graduate. I haven't told anyone at all yet, even my husband. I wanted to wait to see if I could do it and I just know he'll worry every time I go out if he knows I'm going to run. Have an amazing graduation run, your son will be so proud of you xx

How amazed will your husband be when he knows! And how clever are we to deceive our nearest and dearest so easily 🤣🤦‍♀️ I only owned up because he was talking about getting more exercise himself as football will be back soon and he laughingly suggested we went for a run together 🤣

He might buy you a graduation treat. Teenage boys are very thoughtful;)

You might need to tell him that a few days before that event.

That’s brilliant! you deserve a hero’s welcome......you’ll find now that people will be asking you about C25k and your enthusiasm will inspire others to give it a go, that’s what happened to me, I told nobody I worked with until I actually graduated and nowadays it’s just a given that I go running. Well done Determined55, you’ve certainly lived up to your name. 👏🏻👏🏻👍👍

My 17 year old son is the most encouraging and genuinely interested person in my running journey (apart from you lot that is) 😊

Are that’s so good to hear. I don’t know what I was expecting tbh, maybe I was worried he would laugh and say ‘what you, running?! 🤣’ which he did in a way but a very good and encouraging way!

Congratulations and what a lovely gesture from your son, lovely.

When I was completing the C25K (and sometimes still), I always think about my kids and that I'm doing this for them as well as myself.

Without fail, after every run, my daughter asks me how many km I've done and it definitely makes it all worth it when she gives a big smile afterwards.

Determined55
Determined55Graduate in reply to Kish247

You’re so right, we are doing it for them too aren’t we? We need to be still here and healthy for as long as possible and also to set some good lifestyle examples. That’s lovely that your daughter asks about your running...especially the smile 😊 makes it all worthwhile 👍🏼

I was getting teary reading your post ... you must be so proud good luck for your last run and congratulations on graduating 😊 x

He does have his moments (sometimes you just have to look hard for them you know? 🤦‍♀️)

Lol I know what you mean, my youngest is 22 next month, he was so caring when he was younger and he is now but as you say his emotional side plays hide and seek a lot more lol x

Aww, what a lovely post...I love it when my son (22) surprises me with support and affection. It can be so infrequent from boys that it's extra special when you're reminded how much they love you.

Well done on your upcoming graduation and enjoy the praise of your boy 🏃‍♀️😊

Rosec25k
Rosec25kGraduate in reply to Run46

oh yes, boys are definately like that. But then one day a miracle happens and they bring home a daughter in law - and the whole world changes, you get to hear things, and discuss things and do things - things that would never happen before!! LOL , It was my D i L who first did C25K and told me about it. 😁

Lol, I'd not paid attention and thought that was you replying...and obviously thought you had an older son too! 😳

Yes, me too...greatly looking forward to Grandkids too, but hopefully not for MANY years 😆

Determined55
Determined55Graduate in reply to Run46

Tbh he is a very cuddly 17 year old (not when anyone else is about obvs! 🤦‍♀️) but usually quite scornful of any of his mum’s mad projects 🙃

Run46
Run46Graduate in reply to Determined55

Lucky you...my son's great and quite inclusive with me with his friends and girlfriend but he's a bit tight with his hugs! I think he saves them for special occasions 😉

Oh, how fantastic that is Determined55! I’m so pleased to hear that👏👏

Determined55
Determined55Graduate in reply to David_G

And I checked again today whether he still means to get up early on Friday (no on line school on Friday so he doesn’t even have to get up to his idea of ‘early’) and he was adamant that he will!! 🤗

Rosec25k
Rosec25kGraduate in reply to Determined55

Apparently it's a proven scientific fact that teen-agers need to stay in bed as long as they can, something to do with all the changes going on in the body they need a lot of sleep.

Determined55
Determined55Graduate in reply to Rosec25k

I do remember sleeping in a lot as a teenager and now when I want to sleep in I just can’t! So blooming frustrating 😂

Absolutely wonderful story, and a good son too!
