Well that was interesting.
As you can see from the picture and as most of you will be experiencing there is a fair bit of snow this morning. I nearly put off running till Monday but then I thought I’d try something new: a treadmill run.
I had to ask the guy at the gym how to make the treadmill work which was mildly embarrassing. This did not stop me faffing for quite a long time during the walk and run to try and find the correct speeds. That’s when you realise that with outdoor running you can decide to go faster or slower or may even have an uneven rhythm without knowing. (Auto fartleks)
For those that are interested In numbers, my comfortable run speed is 1.6 km faster than my walk
After running outdoors I did find a treadmill a bit boring but it all got much more exciting when my app crashed. Luckily I’d looked at the timer on the machine near the start of that run and so was able to do the last five minutes doing an extra two just for good measure. For that section I increased my speed to 3 km faster than my walking pace.
Knowing that I’ve run on a treadmill once I might consider it again if I’m stuck but you definitely need something to listen to because people look at you but strangely when you sing.
Also it’s like running in a sauna, so hot! Would need to rethink running gear.
Now about the calf. My right calf has been quite tight for 10days since I did something weird coming downstairs. When I was at the chiropractor yesterday I asked him to check my knees because I was running. He prodded me on the outside of the knee and I yelped. “Does it hurt?” I would’ve thought that was quite obvious. Crick crack. It turned out that my femur was slightly out of place and so that was leading to calf pain. Seems to have fixed it as I’m back to normal today.
So if you have an ongoing pain /tension that is not plain muscle tiredness, it’s worth getting it checked! I must say, it’s quite cool having a chiropractor follow my progress, I’ll miss it when the booked sessions run out! (No pun intended).
Anyway with all that I took hardly any notice of the run itself. Seemed fine! Now for a weekend of friends and rugby
Happy running 🐌🥇🥔
