February Monthly Chat: kick off your shoes, pull up a chair, come join us for a natter! ππ»ππ½ββοΈππ»ππΌββοΈππ»ππ½ββοΈππ»ππΌββοΈ
Hi everyone and welcome to another exciting running month.
I think Ive said this before, but for those of us new to winter running- my first winter I found it useful to make a note of the temperature, the number of layers I wore, and how I felt from a warmth point of view. Very quickly you will begin to recognise what gear you need for what conditions....... everyone is different in their preferences so it might be worth a try maybe?
So, getting back to our monthly chat.......We are all so busy... life can be hectic .... and even more so for us runners!
Fear not, here is a place to take five, and enjoy a good old natter about our running adventures, trials, tribulations, successes, achievements etc.
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up, but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the month.
If you're a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi, without the pressure of a full post.
So pull up a chair, slip off the running shoes, and settle down for a little chin-wag!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, great running month!

Iβm taking it easy today.....we have snow and ice......me and ice donβt mix! So today Iβm heading for my yoga mat , may even do a Pilaties session too. So much to choose from on YouTube so I donβt even need to find a class whoop whoop. Although for anyone new to yoga or Pilates, I would recommend classes as a start to learn good form.
This month I'm committed to spending more time on core exercises. My legs are kinda OK; they never give up on me. But I can't say the same about the rest of me
A seven-exercises-in-seven-minutes video was suggested in another thread. I've been trying it out for a few days already. It's shocking how weak and inflexible I have become. I need to work harder!
I find it funny how I will go out running in all weather's but if i was not running and just going out you might look outside and say oh not going out today or until the weather is better just something ive noticed. Then again i have a dog so I have to go out no matter what ππ
On my rest day today before w6r3 tomorrow so thought I'd walk to the shops instead of taking the car. It's definitely nippy outside, started snowing halfway round my 2.5mile route but I feel a lot better than if I'd staying indoors and the walk's helped my legs stop aching.
Still attacking my local 'Mound of opportunity' π I've learned to steady my pace which has helped, especially since being asthmatic and struck down with a cold. For me, I have to imagine someone with me doing a brisk walk and I have to make the running motion with smaller strides which I imagine looks like speed walking but I'm most definitely 'catching air' between steps.
I know that I would have avoided going out in the cold pre C25K but have found myself reaching for my thermals instead! X
One benefit of all of this is I can actually do deep breathing in yoga now without a coughing fit. My cardio was so bad before this! I feel double my age and itβs been due to having a desk job I think. All that sitting has played havoc since I had my kids. Better late than never to find the joy of running. My creaking knees are getting the workout they were desperate for!
I finished Week 6 this week on treadmill due to icy pavements and the beginnings of an awful head cold, first for years. Felt really debilitated so havenβt yet started week 7, in fact apart from a couple of yoga classes Iβve done very little except lie on sofa! Any advice re re starting program....should I have a go at Week 6 again or go on to Week 7, have really missed the momentum Iβd built up throughout January.
PS Iβm 61, relatively fit but never undertaken a running program before.
PPS this is great site for advice and chat, thank you!
When you go for your next run, just see how you feel. If you can do week 7, great. If not, maybe revert back to week 6 which will give you two more interval sessions to get you going. Enjoy!
Went out for my first post-graduation run at lunchtime. The c25k+ stepping stone podcast is a good idea, and I like the beats-per-minute idea of it. Not overly keen on the actual music though!!!
Today we are babysitting our nearly 2 year old granddaughter so I will be pushing the buggy whilst the wife does wk4.2. It should be fun cos as Jackie starts running and disappearing into the distance (though not out of sight) Izzy shouts "Nana" repeatedly as we follow behind. Jackie runs along the track and then turns back at halfway and starts running towards us which excites Izzy even more! It's such a laugh
Very windy here today, but went out early to get the weekend off to a good start! Got my eye on a warm cheese scone for breakfast.......a little treat I made for myself yesterday. Because I can! ππΌ
Windy here too, and had to dodge the showers of hailstones this afternoon, but I managed a nice 6k down the old railway line (avoiding the woods this weekend - I really didnβt fancy having a tree branch landing on my head!!!!).
I got a dog 5 years ago, I used to get really down in the winter and getting a dogo really helped.
The weathers always worse threw the window Once out I feel better what ever the weather, this certainly goes for running too!
I do hate how my nose and eyes run in anything under 8c so I won't miss running with a hanky in my hand! I lost one on the heath yesterday so I'm hoping if I run the same rout tomorrow I'll find it waiting for me in some heather or on the path
Lovely bright morning, a little mist in places.......very cold! But perfect weather for a run!
This week Iβve been scouting out a local route, off road, for my daughter who is home next week. She needs a 12 mile run for her HM training plan. Itβs her first HM. Two years ago she had a kidney transplant so we are incredibly proud of her determination and achievement.
Long, yet interesting run routes can be hard to find, but I think Iβve done it! I shall bank the route for when ever I need similar. My son and I will run half the route each with her.
Hope the weather stays fine for it ππππ½ββοΈππ»ππΌββοΈ
Hope everyone is having a great running month! These milder temperatures are great to run in, but had to move to short sleeves and capris.......loving it ππΌββοΈππ»ππΌ
Beautiful warmer weather, with some trees starting to bloom! I've spent the last few days wearing shorts! Totally out of character for me but since I noticed the marked change in the muscle tone of my lower legs I have been eager to show them off! Something i haven't had the guts to do... ever if I'm truly honest!
I'm still chalking off the runs up and down the local hill but now I'm starting to consider my options post graduation. There are many to consider, I'm spoilt for choice, but I also have to take into account my clan... In the words of a cartoon character i can't remember the name of... What to do? What to do?... Xx
