I went to a proper running shop today for new running shoes, and had my feet, walk & run looked at. Interesting talking to someone much more experienced with running. Being 53 and not having run since school, my first priority with C25K, after getting fit, was to not injure myself doing so. I personally haven’t had anything bad pain wise (so far), but have read a lot of comments here of people asking for help with aches and pains. The foot scan (looking at how you bear your weight on your feet) showed most of mine is on my heel, I have just above average arches. My gate analysis showed that I, along with 70% of runners, overpronate (as the foot is planted it rolls inward excessively) which can cause stress on the knees & ankles. All this meant I was recommended to have running shoes with extra support.
Now, of course the chap was in the business of selling shoes, but I was there to buy (I’ve got this far on some trainers that were running ones, but not bought for that purpose), so I would suggest to people with aches and pains to try this out. Even if you’re not ready to buy anything - when you do need to you’ll know what you’re looking for and you might get tips and help on what could be causing you pain.
Here’s to pain free & injury free running!
