Hi, I’ve read lots of posts about people suffering with pain in their calves. Is it always due to a lack of fluid? Mine started aching towards the end of my run today and want to know how to help it before the longer runs come along!

Aching calves due to dehydration??

More likely to be just aching. Make sure you're drinking enough but don't get obsessive about it. This is not running 100 miles through Death Valley.

Not always... calves cramp for lots of reasons... including recent cramps... and over hydration

New runners are prone to aching calves simply because of relatively weak muscles. Extra strength work will help reduce this, as can adequate hydration.

I am really interested in hearing replies to this, especially about over-hydration. Last night my group moved on to 5 minute runs, and my calves were in agony! I was shuffling along in so much pain. Could it be due to over-hydration? I panicked an hour before the run that I’d not drunk enough throughout the day and so necked three pints of water in one go....

Eek! That’s a lot! I’m due to start W4 on Monday and worried my calves may let me down!

This might sound a bit random but I find it more when the paths are really cold. Weird though 😂
