Slow down. Until breathing is not a problem. It might feel slow but that's fine. Pace may come later..

Keep that pace down as Ang33333 says, talk in full sentences to check that you’re in conversational pace.

Knees do take some impact and this can also be reduced by running slowly... as well as good running shoes, softer running surfaces and landing your feet flat and under the body. Also have a look in the pinned posts and the guide to this plan... there’s some good strengthening exercises in there and they did wonders for my knees... 30 years of pain and being told not to run have been replaced by running and pain free knees!

Great job getting started on this plan... keep getting to the start line and you will succeed. Enjoy your journey.

Did you get your running shoes fitted according to your gait? That’s a must. I’m sure your knees will be so much happier in the future. And lightly jog. None of this ‘running’ stuff. Don’t bounce up and down, as you’ll exhaust yourself early on. Just let your feet come off the ground. And drink loads of water before and after the jog and at all other times, too.

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

You should be running at a pace at which you can speak clear ungasping sentences as you run.......... this will sort your breathing and reduce the impact on your knees

Enjoy your journey

Firstly.. welcome... Then... have you checked out the post for New runners... there is a great deal of useful information there.

The mantra here is slow and steady and there is no such thing as too slow!

If you are struggling with your breathing... just slow down more. We do expect aches and pains when we begin running... so... try these exercises for your knees.

Make sure you warm up really well and stretch after your runs...
