Holiday

I have been doing a 30 minute run three times a week for a few months. I’m off on holiday to Cyprus where it is about 17’ c and wondered if doing a shorter run most mornings would be ok (15min). Is there still a need to ‘rest’ every second day.

I just got back from a holiday in the Canaries - hills and heat 😬 - I’ve only run in flat and and the cold! Short morning runs would work but see how you get on? The locals in the Canaries also run in the early evening as the sun goed down. If there’s a promenade by the beach that’s a lovely place to run with a sea breeze. And take water - I don’t bother here yet, but will in warmer weather, oh and short sleeves! I couldn’t keep up my runs (those hill!) but I walked a lot & ran when I could (only 3 times over 13 days) and I was fine when I got back. As you’ve been running for longer you should be fine. Enjoy!!

There is no definitive answer to your question.

When you run you create microtears in your muscles which repair and strengthen your rest days, not while running. Obviously if you run less, then there is less repair to be done.

This article runnersworld.com/runners-st... recommends having six months of regular running and extra cardio work on rest days, before considering running on consecutive days. I err on the side of caution and suggest that a year is more appropriate for most people.

All this is fairly arbitrary and cannot predict whether you are likely to cause yourself an injury, so, as I said before, there is no clearcut answer and you will have to use your own judgement.

Have a great holiday.
