Just completed my final run for week 8, it didn’t go well. Had to stop several times to catch my breath. It was really hard but I am slowly improving on my distance. Not sure if I should complete week8 again as it has been such a struggle. Any ideas you lovely runners? Seem to get to 20mins and loose all my energy , have tried to pace myself better but not sure this is working.

Repeat weeks if you need to. It is better that you feel able to carry on. Breathing gets easier. Apparently it’s common for even experienced runners to struggle with the first 5/10mins. Your body is getting used to the exercise it’s doing. 👟👟

Sounds like a pace problem to me unless you have a cold or the cold weather is bringing out asthma if you are a sufferer? It gets to a point where it is quite hard to judge your pace. You may be moving more quickly than you think. I have to use my running watch to make sure that I don't set off too quickly. Maybe set off with the intent of doing week 9, run your slowest possible pace without actually walking, and if you find that you have to walk after 28 mins, call it a week 8 re run! See how it goes in other words. Think🐌😊

If you had to stop several times I would repeat that run. Next time slow down as much as you can.

You are nearly there 🤩

Yes you should repeat wk8 I think, try and slow right down . Don't worry about your distance being more that would show you are going too fast good luck

The first mile is always hard. I am back to couch 2 5k after long term injury but when I was running much longer distances, EVERY SINGLE time I struggled for the first mile. The body is wandering what the *** you are doing to it.

So every time those thoughts appeared I reminded myself that it happened each run and I CAN do it. The same is happening now I’ve restarted even though I am only on week 5 now!

The key is distraction. Try and think of something that you can daydream about to take your mind off the clock.

And slow a little rather than stop. Everyone on here runs the same time...speed is irrelevant at this point and in fact at all times unless you choose to make it.

Thanks everyone for the advice, think I will run wk8 again. Funny as I have had a cold but didn’t make the connection, durr 🤪. Have a good weekend if you are attending a park run. That’s my goal .

Hi guys, it’s my last run tomorrow of week 9. Think I’m probably running about 3k but haven’t recorded my distance as yet. Feeling a little sad the 9weeks are over and was just wondering where to go from here, know I still need to increase my distance but to be honest I’m feeling really pleased to have stuck with it. Haven’t run since school and have lost 8lb in weight. Starting to notice a change in my body and although I ache a little I generally feel great.
