So not as far forward as I thought

Good brisk walk with running shoes on for first time since end October. Felt good to be really moving even though could feel every left step I took but no pain just a constant ache. Half way round tried 5 running steps. Hurt. Stopped . Walked home deflated and icing the discomfort and nursing my bruised optimism.

Ouch that's so frustrating for you. Don't despair, you will get there, just slower than you'd like.

Injury is rubbish. I have had months out at a time from climbing with various injuries. I try to use that time to pursue other interests (art, get better at guitar, etc), do low impact stuff like swimming and work on unaffected areas, such as upper body strength. I have seen a lot of climbers come back stronger from injury. It really sucks during, though... it will pass.

Yep, it's horrible, I had to stop just after graduating c25k. It was weeks before I could run again, and I still have to be careful. You're right, it's really important to find other interests, and other ways to maintain fitness (Pilates, yoga, anything that doesn't affect the injury). I took up crochet! Not quite the same endorphin rush, 😁 but it kept me out of mischief.
