Well I’ve been hiding from the forum for a long, long, time. Not wishing to show my fewer, slower run record in public.
Anyway I then remembered how very helpful it has been for me to read posts from people who have not found the transformation from snail to gazelle possible despite sterling effort.
So I share my brand new personal worst with this lovely sympathetic audience...
Parkrun today , we were invited to dress up in the Christmas spirit so I did. Hmm first mistake, don’t wear a knitted mother Christmas outfit is my advice, it was hot and heavy if not saucy. I got slower and slower until I walked with rasping breath and not an ounce of Christmas spirit. A lovely lady passed me as I staggered along thanking me for getting her that far as she has kept mother Christmas in her sight as she ran. ( so I must have been ahead of her at some point!) Sad to say I staggered in 3 from last and with a time slower than I have ever done...
Happy festive season to you all and may you run towards the New Year with lighter hearts and minds

It may not have felt like a great run, but you were out there running which is better than getting back on the couch. And to run in Christmas attire; I can't imagine it. But you gave someone support who was following you for a good portion of the run and did a great job, even if you felt it was slow. Chalk it up to a tough run that will just make you tougher, and forget about it before your next run. Great job for getting out there during such a busy time of year. Kudos to you.
You managed to run 5k in a knitted outfit - that's a win in my book!
There are plenty of snails out here, myself included. Slow running is actually better for your health apparently, and you're still much faster than the people sat on the couch.
That is a great story and thank you for sharing. It is great to hear of what others think is a relatively poor performance, when in fact it is the opposite. To be able to tell others the bad times stories as well as the good time stories is a sign of humility and humanity. Very well done. My headmaster used to say that just turning up is half the effort and the rest is easy. I use a company to let our properties called NGU. It stands for Never Give Up, and I think people on this forum are the epitomy of that guidance. Thanks for being an NGU and for sharing.
First of all, I LOVE your name! It really made me chuckle this morning!
Never mind that you were towards the back of the pack to cross the finishing line, the most important thing is that you crossed it! No, actually, the most important thing is that you turned up at the start line! As Tartancat said, you are still much faster than those who were still on the couch!
At my first Park Run yesterday I finished 819th out of 826, so there were only 7 people slower than me - and one of those was the tail walker, so doesn't really count. Some of the other slower people had previous personal bests of much faster than me and I wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately hung back to encourage me! I'm proud of doing it at all, and I'm sure your grandchildren are proud of you, too: Look, Nanny Parkruns!
Thank you to you and all others that have taken time to reply. Congratulations on your first park run. I’ve set a goal of doing an alphabet of Parkruns just by way af finding one so flat that I fly to the finish ha ha 😃 so far B Blickling,D Dudley L Liverpool... so that’s only 23 to go!
I have found in my limited experience that everyone is friendly, all shapes and ages and all speeds from slug to Bolt so when I’m out on my own solo runs I can imagine all those runners out there doing their own thing.
Happy park running into the New Year and beyond........
