Festive Mantra 7

Right, ladies and gentlemen, time to look up the Pogues on your Christmas Karaoke album. By special request of Shelley2310 I give you “The Fairytale of C25k”. Enjoy !

It was Christmas Eve, babe,

In the hushed park.

A rude man said to me,

“Can’t see you learn to run !”

And then he laughed at me

But I thought of you all.

I turned my face away

And dreamed of 5k.

I’m on a healthy run,

Having a lot of fun.

I’ve got a feeling

This year’s for me and you.

So Happy Christmas,

My running family;

I can see a better time

When all our dreams come true.

We’ll be handsome

Or pretty,

Race through every city,

They’ll all stop their mocking,

They’ll gasp in surprise.

Our arms we’ll be swinging,

Mad mantras all singing -

In hi-viz and torches

We’ll dazzle their eyes.

We forum folk are running proud

Here, there and far away,

And the bells are ringing out

For Christmas Day.

In old shoes

Or new shoes,

In gold, red or blue shoes,

Barefoot if you’re brave

(Maybe not in the snow !)

We’re brave, wise and clever,

We run hell for leather.

“Happy Christmas” we cry

As fast onwards we go !

We forum folk are running proud

Here, there and far away,

And the bells are ringing out

For Christmas Day.

You still can learn to run

And so can anyone.

Embrace that inner snail

As week on week goes by.

We’ll keep you with us, babe:

Together we are strong;

Together we belong;

Together we can fly.

We forum folk are running proud

Here, there and far away,

And the bells are ringing out

For Christmas Day 🎄😄

So nice...is it Irish music?

It’s by a band called the Pogues - I think it was originally an Irish band and the lead singer is definitely Irish. Check out the original on YouTube.

Thanks, Tartancat. Would you like my forty minute massively emotional acceptance speech now ? 😁😁

Tartancat

Yes, so long as it can be sung to the tune of "I wish it could be Christmas every day"!

Oh my aunt - what a truly awful thought 😆 Thank heaven it isn’t Christmas every day !

Congratulations BCK for your version of The Pogues Fairytale of New York. How about Iam Dreaming of a White Christmas 🤶 🎄 for running, could start with I'm dreaming of running a 5K..Of course you don't need to dream about that, not too long before you graduate, depending on the weather. 😊

Wee while yet for me, AlMorr, but I’m delighted with progress so far. I think we’d all prefer NOT to have a white Christmas this year, so we can get out and run 😄

Exactly, may I wish you and your family a very happy Christmas 🤶 🎄.

Lovely 💕. I love how this forum exposes me to so much other than running. That is not a song I have heard, but I love a Celtic vibe. Makes me think of my mom who is originally from Nova Scotia.

Cool ! I used to work at a school in the Scottish Highlands and our pipers used to go on exchange visits to Nova Scotia. Small world 😄
