Retro Runners - Birthday Number Ones Released

Thanks to all you lovely people, we have a new playlist and this time UnfitNoMore wasn't able to Marilyn Manson me! I asked you to choose your birthdate's Number One, or if it was really horrid, you could swap it out for a hit from a significant birthday...

Clearly the 60s seems to be the decade of C25K with The Beatles the most favoured band, which is fab if you pardon the pun, as I am from Liverpool and went to the same school as Mr Lennon (not at the same time, for any doubters... :))

This pop-pickers is our essential , Birthday Number Ones list:-

Cathy’s Clown - Everly Brothers

Maggie May - Rod Stewart

Keep On Running - Spencer Davis Group

Cum On Feel The Noize - Slade

I’m Into Something Good - Herman’s Hermits

That’ll Be The Day - Buddy Holly

The Loveliest Night of The Year - Mario Lanza

Hot Love - T Rex

One Way or Another - One Direction (my god daughters!)

Help - The Beatles

Cars - Gary Numan

Mr Tambourine Man - Bob Dylan

House of Fun - Madness

9 to 5 - Dolly Parton

Five Minutes More - Frank Sinatra

Uptown Girl - Billy Joel

I’m A Believer - The Monkees

Please Please Me - The Beatles

Diana - Paul Anka

Fernando - ABBA

Come On Eileen - Dexys

I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye

Promises - Mark Ronson and Sam Smith

Let it Be - The Beatles

People Got To Be Free - The Rascals

Have I the Right - The Honeycombs

Good Luck Charm - Elvis

I’ll Never Find Another You - The Seekers

I Feel Fine - The Beatles

Tears of A Clown - Smokey Robinson

Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison

She Loves You - The Beatles

Ticket To Ride - The Beatles

Mony Mony - Tommy James and The Shondells

The Reflex - Duran Duran

I’ve been trying this out on my recent runs, and it’s quite fun, although some tempo changes can be a challenge.

The list is on Spotify

The Alzheimer’s Challenge continues, and as of today I have under 50kms to go.

Happy running everyone - and is it too early/late for me to do a Christmas playlist??? Or are you all fed up of Christmas songs already?

I have already heard all the tunes on your 'Retro Runners Birthday Number Ones, Jancanrun', and ran to some of them as well, thank you Jan for including the tune I requested, 'Keep on Running' by the Spencer Davis Group, always a good tune to accompany runners, the BBC sometimes uses that tune when they are broadcasting the liking of the Great North Run or the London Marathon when there is a short break in the commentary, you see all the runners with Keep on Running playing.

Thanks - glad you like it, already it’s one of my favourites, although in truth I really don’t like my own birthdate number one. I swapped mine and the swap was worse, so I’ve gone back to the original..... Still it keep me off the streets

Don’t worry... I’m ready for the next one 😂

in reply toUnfitNoMore

But I reckon my next theme will mean it’s highly unlikely, although possible that MM will feature... I don't always like your taste, but I do think you have musical integrity, so you won’t con me!

Hmmm... if it’s seasonal he’d be out... but lots of others would be in 😂

in reply toUnfitNoMore

Not seasonal - got you confused.... Christmas would have been way too obvious, after you ambushing me correctly this time around.

Running Bear 😁. I bet there’s not many here who remember that one An oldie but a goodie

Hot Love by T-Rex evokes many happy memories for me. Ah what fun, running to face tunes

Thank you for your fab work Jan ✊👏

Running Bear was my birthday one... oh the shame I didn't realise I was that old. Not one of my fave tunes to be honest, so I thought I might swap it, but the alternatives weren’t that great either. So for artistic and editorial integrity, Running Bear remains in.

T Rex however, much more my thing, I had pics of Marc on my bedroom wall and wondered why most boys I knew didn't wear pink satin jackets, with glitter on their faces....

He came from a very folksy background before his glam rock incarnation. I think he felt it was more commercially successful. He got that right 😁.

You’re not wrong! I think that was when John Peel stopped promoting him on the radio. My first single was Ride A White Swan, which I think had a nod to his past music...
