W5r3... 20minutes? Scared!

Hi lovely runners 😃

So tomorrow is my w5r3... My first consecutive 20-minutes jog and I am quite scared ... Yesterday the 2 8-minutes consecutive runs were hard, and I am scared for tomorrow ! Should I just do it or repeat my last run?

Thanks!

Peace😋

If you completed wk5r2 just go on and do run 3 , it's not as bad as you think what have you got to lose , come back tomorrow and tell us about it good luck

Go for it but make sure you go slowly particularly at the beginning. It's a great feeling when you do it, and you will. it's all in the mind by now, the legs are fit enough.

Just do it and you will be pleasantly surprised! I did it on Sunday and like you found the 8 minutes difficult but trust me you will do it and you will feel on top of the world afterwards!

Hi Laura, I have R3 of W5 tonight and I'm going to go for it. I'm coming to realize that the challenge is in the brain, not the legs. Your brain knows that you can run for 16 minutes (albeit with a break in the middle) so what's an extra 4 minutes on top of that? I am going to spend the day not allowing myself to be scared of it and I'm confident that even if I don't manage the full 20 minutes I will definitely be doing a lot more than the 8 consecutive minutes I did (twice!) on Tuesday! Go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

What are you scared of?

I guess stopping/giving up halfway through the run and feeling horrible... But I must say all these replies are really motivating me!

That's nothing to be 'scared' of - you're only running/jogging, there's much worse things in life to be scared of!

If 2x 8mins was a bit hard, then just try and slow down a bit for W5R3 - you'll be fine. Remember that the 14 runs you've done to this point have prepared you for this... ONe of my C25K mantra's is that every run you've done previously, prepares you for the next one :-)

Just take it easy :-)

Good luck!

You’ve done the training to get to this point Laura. Nothing to be scared of, just another run. Often the fear of doing is worse than the actual doing. Take it nice & steady, you’ve got this👍🏻

Do it, you will love it! Trust the plan Laura! Each run and each week prepares you for the next. Who said it would be easy 😊. Keep it v slow to start and keep it slow and steady. We all know you can do it!

We were all scared of this run, and we all realised after the run that our fear and worry was not necessary! If you've followed the programme properly then you are ready for this run! After you've done it you'll feel amazing! Good luck and enjoy :)

The intervals you did are harder than the run you face. Relax, you can do it, believe that you can and go slow and steady. You just did over 20 minutes with your heart rate up... the next run is less in that respect. Go as slow as you can and you’ll be fine, pace usually goes up naturally about 10 minutes in, let that happen but no extra effort... then you’ll grin and give it some legs in the last minute.

It’s mind over matter. If you’ve completed all the other runs then you already have the fitness to run for 20 minutes .. you’re just proving it to yourself. I felt the same but it was easily my favourite run and once you’ve done it, it gives you the confidence to get you to W9.Good luck and enjoy

I was surprised that the 20 min run wasn’t half as bad as I had imagined! However with a cold this week have really struggled with shorter runs?! Give it a go- I really surprised myself.

Laura, I replied earlier today to say it was my W5R3 tonight and I thought I'd just pop back in to tell you that I did it, and I loved it! It wasn't as easy as, say, falling off a log, but it was easier than I expected, and easier than the previous run. Honestly, don't be afraid, don't worry about speed, don't worry about stopping or giving up - you won't need to. Please come back in and post to let us know how you got on.

Thank you guys! I did it today and it was hard- worst part is that i got a stitch halfway through- soooo annoying as I am drinking loads. So frustrating.

But glad I made it and thank you all for your help! 😋

I've graduated C25K once before, and the one thing I remember about that 20-minute run is: GO SLOW. Really, go as slow as you like! The only goal is completion; don't worry about time or distance right now. You can do it! If you go slow enough, you can really run as long as you like. :) Good luck!
