No such thing as a bad dog!

W8r2 done yesterday in glorious sunshine👍🏼. Love dogs but not dog owners who let their barking growling dogs run at/after me. No I’ve not been bitten but fear I will be. Anyone else encountered this? Ideas?

Hello some people are inconsiderate and not realising that running people can actually make a dog excited as my own dog barks at joggers but he is always on a short leash so no problem to them really and it's to do with people whizzing by. Not really anything you can do but keep going in the hope you don't get bitten good luck😊😊🙄🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Well done completing W8R2! maybe do a uturn when you see a feral puppy? I don't tend to see many barky growlers, I just have to restrain myself from stopping to fuss over them and pet them - which is a big ask really. I'm sorry that they are making you fearful though.:(

Hate to admit it but u-turns unlikely to help as I suspect every dog I’ve ever met runs faster than I do (ahem, over short distances😉).

I think we should be allowed to run right past the owner and kick em in the groin. Maybe that’s too harsh? I’ve only had one what actually stopped me running, lots of near misses though. If your dog won’t come straight away when it’s off the lead, don’t let it off in a park! I don’t mind much on the trail to be honest.

Kick em in the groin lol and lol some more!

My lab never came straight back when called. He would turn round and look at you with a dopey "did you call me?" face then he might amble back in my direction. At which point the runner had either whizzed passed him or fallen over him! In the end i dint bother calling as it was generally safer for the runner 🤣🤣🤣

Too harsh but it did make me laugh! Think trail rather than park running may be the answer, it’s just that park running (used to feel) safer.

My dog has never bothered "C25K runners" but she did chase after a "real runner" once - something going that quickly is obviously prey ;) It didn't help that he came up from behind so I had no warning that he was there.

What is the difference between C25K runners and 'real runners'?

Speed. C25K runners are heeding Oldfloss ' "Slow and steady" mantra, real runners are chasing a PB :)

Thank you for your reply, what we call gazelles here on C25K, running 🏃 at sub 40 or sub 20 minutes for a 10K or 5K respectively. 😊 🏃 🏃

Quite a problem a while back with rotten dog walkers so definitely can identify with you.

Trying to kick a dog is not a good idea on many levels - not least that it presents your ankle to it very nicely.

The laws on “personal defense implements” can be nuts but if you are truly worried about a dog having a go at you a short but sturdy piece of bamboo is a good thing to have. Can spike a dogs face with it and it’s light to carry - and after all, your life’s dream is to some day join a Relay team so you run with it to get used to holding a baton, right?

Bloody irresponsible dog owners not only put people in harms way but their dogs who pay the price because they were not properly supervised :(
