I used to see people out running in dark, damp hours of the early morning and I used to think "I wish I could do that, I wish I had that level of commitment".
And the truth is that I've tried a few times to start running, but always under my own methods - and I made so many mistakes! Didn't warm up. Didn't do any strengthening or flexibility exercises. Didn't worry myself about careful pacing. Didn't cool down. Etc., etc., etc. The result of this was after I'd done three runs my middle-aged body started, unsurprising, to fall to bits (achilles, calves, etc.)
I eventually woke up to the fact that C25K might actually be a good idea. I've followed it, to the letter, and today completed W9R3. It's been a great journey!
Now, what do I do next …???

Congratulations on graduating! You got wise...and you got fit!👍 As for what next - a bit of consolidation is always good at this point and then you can see how you feel about the future. Like Lisaloopy9 above, I too went on to longer distances, (10k, 10 mile and half marathon) but some prefer to stick to regular 5ks and there is always the challenge of speed for some! Why not pop over to the 'Bridge to 10k' forum and the 'Marathon running and race support' forum and see what happened next for others that started here! Friendly faces on all of them - good luck!🙂
Congratulations! Very well done. Next? Basically 2 choices, use your new talent to keep you fit, or progress up from 5k... 10 would be logical.
Also it may help to set goals... maybe you have somewhere you could climb up and run down? Maybe you want a certain time at parkrun? Maybe you want to run the marathon some day?
Whatever you chose to do, the most important thing is to keep it fun.
There’s this useful post. But consolidate, consolidate, consolidate. Get the running habit ingrained and you are away, literally 😀, to a whole new world.
Not being a meanie but don’t forget that although you are a C25K graduate 👍🍾🎉👏 (what a great feeling) you are still learning so, as always, the best thing is to listen to your body and go with the flow - choose when and where to force it a little.
