Running for the first time on a treadmill. Any advice on settings? Am a C25k graduate.

I don't fancy running in the cold and dark so I thought I'd try the treadmills at school where I work but I have no idea what settings to use. So far I can run for 30mins and manage between 3.5-4.5k. Any tips?

Thanks

Find out what it measures in. I find this useful to go my normal outdoor pace on a treadmill although I can never go quite as fast as outside.

I think they measure in kph and normal pace is minutes per km.

Hi I've graduated this week and done most of it on the treadmill. I set it on 1 incline and range between 7 and 8 kph for speed. It works ok for me.

Hi! I’ve done a fair bit of the programme on the treadmill and I find 8km/h is a comfortable pace, 9.5km/h is a run which I can’t sustain for a very long time (like a km maximum!)

I'm quite short and I run at 4mph. Slowly increasing my speed. Bizarrely run faster outside.

Hi CP1972. I have been to learning to love the treadmill over the past 3 weeks. Never used one before and did my C25k outside. So what have I learnt???? ( took me 3 tries to do it)

1. Double Check settings. I run without my reading 👓 glasses so the other night I got on and started to increase the km speed only to find it was set on mph. I have learnt there’s a big difference lol 😂

2. I found running on treadmill very different so started at a pace I was comfortable with so I could do the 30 mins. Yes it was slower than my outside pace but it helped me find my feet and confidence.

3. If there is a unhelpful mirror in front of you don’t look. There’s nothing worse for me than seeing myself run. Not pretty.

4. I get much hotter on treadmill so keeping it comfortable helps.

5. And use cool down. Legs can feel a bit funny coming off after 40 mins.

Hope this helps. Also blast my music, sing and people watch. Also tv screen on if it has one with subtitles.
