So due to all 3 of my running routes suddenly becoming part of the river on Friday, I attempted an indoor cycle instead of one of my runs this weekend. I though ‘well its cardio it will be better than doing nothing’. I did not like it! And my bottom certainly did not like it. 40 mins! I only burned half the calories I would have on a run and I couldn’t even sit down comfortably for the afternoon cos of my numb bum. I actuallly missed running and even though I’d exercised, I felt like I’d cheated😆; but the thing I missed the most was the being outdoors. I thought that odd to begin with, but I realised that the running not only works my body, but also my mind. I see all sorts of wildlife on my run and they help put some of the worries I might have set out on the run with into perspective. I might have had a bad day at work, but the little birds and animals I see on the run are fighting daily for survival. Being outdoors is an amazing boost for mental wellbeing and I kind of enjoy that. So I’m actually really looking forward to my next run and I hope all the little beings have survived the flood. 🏃♀️😊

Cycling is good cross training and maintains fitness if you’re forced into the gym. Well done giving it a go. I think it needs gentle easing into though, I wouldn’t go for 40 minutes straight off. A friend of mine says you don’t break a saddle in, you break your butt in to suit it... I guess he’s right!
Hopefully the waters have subsided now.
