Park run virgin

So, on Saturday, I had a go at this park run thing. Not having a clue how it worked, I just fell in with someone in the car park and she told me what to do. Left my bar code and car keys at the desk, and then a proper runner walked with me to the start, where I struck up more that one conversation with people milling about.

Saw my GP limbering up (he is a triathlon competitor), and thought - well, at least if I fall in a heap, there is help available, and he knows me well 😊.

It was great craic! The fast ones lapped me soon enough (including my GP, who finished n 19 minutes).

Anyway, I talked to all the volunteers on the way round, and a volunteer told me not to give up, while another encouraged me to sprint the last 50 metres.

I finished in 33.50, and 1st in my age group (I'm 61). Had a laugh at that - the aged pensioner, and thought "I'm probably the only one in that group". Checked the listing, and there were 18 of us! Maybe the other 17 were walking? Anyway, I'll grab anything that is worth celebrating, and be economical with the reality 😂😂.

Maybe if I didn't stop to talk to everybody, I'd have gone faster, but the craic is mighty, and made the run enjoyable!

Brilliant well done. Parkrun is my target after I graduate. I'm 62 and would be happy with anything under 40 minutes!!

I too did my first park run last Saturday, I’m 64 and came third in my age group at a time of 33. 34. Well done to you, if like me you enjoyed it you will do more. I’m doing my second on Saturday again. Well done and keep running, it’s good for our bones apparently.

Fabulous achievement. Well done. Great time..but more importantly you soaked up the atmosphere and chatted to people. That's what I love about parkrun.. all people, all speeds ... and you can fit in wherever. I'm addicted!! Enjoy your running.
