Tips needed.....

So, just done wk9 r1 and struggled is an understatement. I did complete it fully but boy was it tough. I need to run slower but just can’t get it right and end up speeding back up a bit and really tiring myself out.... any tips for consistency ? I’ve tried an app but that didn’t help much 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

You've reached week 9 so you've obviously done fine so far. Pacing yourself is hard and it's something you can work on after graduation but make a conscious effort to run slowly. If you can talk while running then you're fine, if not then you're going too fast.

You could try running to music with a specific spm (steps per minute) . Try

Thank you so much, I’ll give it a go and also try and make an effort to slow.... I’ll try the music app and hopefully this will help

I had this issue too. I'd check my breathing by saying something to myself to make sure I could keep up a conversation (sounds stupid but it worked). I also listened to some really mellow, ballad-type music to stop me from speeding up. Plus, I found getting off to a good slow start and concentrating for the first few minutes seemed to set me up for the right pace.

It may sound stupid lol but if it works I’ll give it a go.... I’m working through my playlist at the moment to find appropriate running songs...

Thank you so so much for this tip, I’ve just given it a go and although I must have looks crazy talking to myself the majority of the run, it really did bloody work.... had such a great run today 👍👍👍

As mentioned by Flyingred talking to yourself in full ungasping sentences gets the pace correct.

You could try running with someone who has a naturally slower pace than you, making sure you don't force the pace.

Learning to run at different paces is crucial for long term running.

As far as running songs are concerned, in my opinion, if I like it, it is a running song, forget the BPM or you will never slow down.

Thank you, my next run is Friday so I’ll definitely give it a go.... I’m really enjoying running and want it to become a part of my life so ill take all the advice I can get... I’ll work on slowing my pace for my last 2 runs

I know you’ve mentioned you use an app but have you tried Runkeeper? I find it really useful. I listen to my music and then Runkeeper tells you your pace, distance run every 5 minutes. It’s really helped me keep an even pace.

Good luck with runs 2 and 3. You are doing great. Not long until graduation 😁

I haven’t tried runkeeper tbh, I’ll give it a go.... need to maybe change my playlist, it’s quite fast paced at times, house, trance 🤣🤣🤣 maybe need something more serene 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Mines all Ministry of Sound. I don’t think I could cope with anything serene 😂

Hmmm curious..... not sure if my mine dictates my pace... not sure how to slow down to fast music 🤔🤔🤔

Nice one. Fantastic. You are doing great. I might try a bit of Indie and see what that does to my pace 😁
