8 mile walk

Hi All

After some calming advice from you lovely people I hugely enjoyed W4R1 today!!! Just looking ahead to next Saturday when I should be doing W5R1 I’ve just noticed is a 20 min run. I know I’ll be ready for it (I’m amazing myself that I’m saying that - but I’ve learnt today to trust the programme!) The issue is I’m doing a sponsored 8 mile moonlight walk on Saturday evening...should I do both in the same day? Or try and do the run day before or after? I don’t want to lose a rest day but I’m not sure what to do for the best. Has anyone got any advice?

Certainly don’t pull it forwards and run 2 in 2 days. That walk may need your legs fresh... but the walk will help your running. You may get up Sunday with stiff legs too.

If it was me I’d not even consider the run until Sunday evening, maybe even Monday.

Thanks. I normally take a two day break between Wednesday’s run and Saturday, I could do it Friday after work and then I might be recovered by the night. Then I could do run 2 on Monday like usual? Does that sound realistic?

Then that would be my route, run Friday, walk Saturday, beer Sunday, not too many, watch the hydration... run Monday.

Substitute beer for gin and that’s me sold! Thanks for your advice 🍸

It all depends whether you are used to doing 8 mile walks.

If not and assuming that you are a new runner, I think you may be better off having a day's rest between the two.

I walk a lot but 8 miles does seem far! I might delay run 2 if my legs don’t feel right after it 🏃‍♀️

Take the advice from IannodaTruffe .. especially if you are not used to walking that far..:)

Nothing else useful to add, as all the wise sage ones have already said it, but just wanted to say have a wonderful walk, and a successful run when you feel ready! 😀

It really IS the most friendly and supportive forum I’ve ever encountered. Glad you’re loving it too! Makes running even more contagious! 😅
