Running after 5 days off.. advice pls

Hi,

I graduated a week or two ago and had been running 30 mins every couple of days since. I came down with a stinking cold on Monday, which was due to be a run day (last run was Sat). Anyway, I’ve not felt up to it this week so haven’t run.

I’m feeling better today. Would you suggest I just do a shorter run e.g 20 mins or go straight back into a 30 min run tonight?

Thanks for your thoughts...

It takes a couple of weeks before there is discernible loss of condition, but it also takes longer to recover to the point where strenuous exercise is easy than to get back to normal daily activities.

I always ease myself back after an illness, as performance and pleasure can be impacted.

Maybe look at a minimum of 20 mins at your comfy pace starting off, then see how you feel at about the 20 then if you're happy, carry on, you should be Ok with your condition at just 5 days, it takes considerably longer than that to lose it..

Yes, I was thinking something similar. It’s reassuring to hear that my form won’t just disappear that quickly!! 😊

20 minutes fast, 30 minutes normal, 40 minutes slow... the choices are endless really. 5 days is nothing, your body will have appreciated the rest.

Take the advice from IannodaTruffe ... slow and steady as you go.. it will all come back to you soon enough :)

You probably went out already so my thoughts might be too late.

I would go on as usual 30 mins

It's not like you 'lose' your pace so fast!

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Thanks. Did the 30 mins. Slowly.😊 Feeling a little extra tired today but I think that’s the after effect of the cold.

Thanks for your thoughts.👍

See? Well done.

Not that it would be considered a backtrack if you only managed 20mins. Or 15. You are recovering from a cold so dont be strict! It doesnt matter if it was slow paced. You went out there when you could have skived. Great!!!
