Not run for a week

Hi Ivan New to this. I completed my first week but fell over on my third run and have injured my shoulder. I am now finding it hard to get motivated to do my second week as I am a little scared of falling again. Any advise would be gratefully received.

We all tumble at some point but we just get back up and go again. If you’ve recovered just jump right back in where you left off We can’t sit indoors our whole lives just worrying about whether we might tumble. If we get fit we can better cope if we do 😀👍

Maybe just try a familiar running track, probably a smooth one is possible. If you listen to music as well maybe keep it very quiet and only in one ear to help your concentration. The first few weeks are the hardest, the way to keep motivated is to make yourself do it and be proud of your progress! Good luck! Hope your shoulder is better soon.

You may need to consider your shoes if you’re a little unstable, if you go to a good running shop they should give you good advice :)

You're asking a regular faller here! (Though I don't so much fall as throw myself to the floor!). Take it easy - falling comes as quite a shock (Not something we are generally used to any more!). If you are anything like me, the reason you fell is that you caught your toes on the floor. While your head thinks you are running like Usain Bolt, with knees blurring high in front of You, in reality, we inevitably only just clear the ground... Concentrate on going slow but actively push off on that back foot (flexing your ankle) and lifting your foot clear of the ground. Make sure you are running along a reasonably flat path and away from obstacles. Go out and try just a couple of the intervals for a first run to find your feet before setting out for a week2 run. Stick with it. It will be worth it!

Ouch. That's so terrible, I'm sorry. It's very shocking to fall.

I've had tendinitis in my rotator cuff and it's a nightmare. Shoulders. You never think much about them until you hurt one. 😟

I don't know what to say about your fear of falling again. It's easy to be encouraging, but I'm not the one who's afraid. I guess you'll have to work that out on your own, but I do think you'll be more aware and cautious and less likely to fall as time goes on.

when you do start running again, just be careful of that shoulder. Treat it gently and don't go too wild with the arm action!
