Today is my four year runniversary. Four years ago today I clomped around for 30 minutes with the lovely Laura, covering around 3.4K - nowhere near the 5K I thought I'd been promised, but you know, 30 minutes is 30 minutes.... Today I did it again.
What a four years it's been.....shin splints in week 2, one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. I have no idea why I continued with running, must have already been hooked...achilles tendonitis followed, with plantar fasciitis close on it's heels (see what I did there?), a poisoning with mis-prescibed prescription drugs.. and this years new friend who is always on my shoulder, cancer.
Today I took Laura with me, week 9. I wasn't sure how I was going to get on, just yesterday my main side effect from treatment, fatigue, made an appearance, I haven't seen him for a few weeks. Today I was cross, I WANTED to do that 30 minutes, but I have to be realistic and accept that sometimes I just don't have the energy. Well, in the event, it was a super run, I kept going after the 30 minutes were up, and I covered 5 K.. Not fast, it took me 41 minutes, but I did it!
Four years ago, I covered 3.4 K in 30 minutes, today I managed 3.7 - so an improvement! My very first 5 KM took me 47 minutes, so guess what? I'm a happy happy Curly.
You all know our Floss has her own mantra Slow and Steady. Well, mine is Small Successes are worth any size of failure. I count today as a success. Pacing is everything....
Happy running my friends xxx

You are an inspiration! I’ve just done run 2 week 6 so on my next run I’ll think of you and take a leaf out of your book - slow and steady small successes and remember that pacing is everything. Thank you 😊
Absolutely brilliant. What an inspiration. It’ll make us mortals think twice about having a stitch or being a bit too hot! You’re amazing, so well done!!! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Hello Curlygurly2, we have the same anniversary, except I'm 4 years behind you. Well done on your new time. Sorry to hear about your health issues. Very difficult to stay calm and positive I know, but you sound like you're doing it. Good for you👍🌤
What a journey you’ve been on Curly. I hope I am as resilient as you at the 4 year mark. Huge congrats to you! You are out there getting it done every week.
you are an amazing woman! Prayers and good vibes to you!!!!!
Rick threw himself on the floor at parkrun today.....talk about attention seeking...! Doh!
No, bless him, it was really busy, he got stuck in a pack, floored by a flippin’ tree root, not half a K from the start, twisted ankle, grazes etc., he’s mostly upset that he didn’t get to clock up another parkrun, and I’m now one ahead.....😂🏃♀️
(I ran straight past him.....didn’t realise he was there...ha ha...ooopps! 😂)
I am doing fine and feeling good, but still have another 18 months or so of this hormone therapy, which depletes muscle mass, so all I can do is to keep plugging away and hope some of my speed and strength returns when treatment finishes. Blood test and check up next week to see if progress is still being maintained.
I have another four and a half years of my hormone treatment, 5 years altogether. So far the side effects of that have been ok, hot flushes mainly...I still get fatigue from the rads, but not like before.
best of luck for your check up next week, let me know how it goes xx
Happy Runniversary CG! I've been wondering how you are and am so pleased you're still out there doing your thing. You've been a major part of this community in the four years and hugely supportive and kind in your replies. And we've had a few laughs along the way haven't we? I miss you.
If I'd read this yesterday I could have had a toast to you but I'll do it tonight instead 🍾🍸🍷🎈🎉
A big hug to you and here's to the next four years of small successes but big gains xxx
Thank you my dear friend, we've both had our share of running difficulties haven't we? Just can't keep us down for long though...raising my glass to you too xx
