Do I need an aim?

Just back from a run and was asked by my visiting in laws what the aim of all this running was. I couldn't really answer as I don't have a goal. I don't intend to do an organised 5k, go further, go faster, lose weight or any of the things normally quoted.

I realised I wasn't doing anything anymore that raised my heart rate and my children were getting faster than me (oldest is a small 10 year old). Didn't want the expense of a gym or class so started c25k in Feb.

I sleep better, think better and generally feel better. That's enough.

One of the incidental aims of your running is that when in laws ask what the point of it all is you don’t feel belittled! Well done x

Sounds like your aim it to keep fit and live a long, healthy life. Best aim of all really.

Sounds like your aim is to be happy and healthy 😁

Take that, in-laws!!! 👊

They were sat on the sofa moaning about their health......

Next they'll be sorting out their weekly pill assortment.

They are only a couple of years older than my parents but seem like a generation above in thinking. Mine go to the gym and do yoga!

Crikey, it would have taken restraint for me, in that case, not to say 'to not end up like you'.

Two sibling relatives of mine are a couple of years apart, but the older one seems SO much older - activity and mindset make all the difference.

The aim... to outlive them!! 🤣🤣🤣

Seriously though, it's a bit frustrating when asked this question. Why do we do anything? 🤔 Because we have to or want to is why. 👍😁💪

Good heart health in addition to everything you’ve said! And I find that it takes some of the guilt out of the custard creams too when I’ve been for a run 😉

Cake is definitely on the cards for this afternoon. And it's big mixed grill for tea! Mmmmmm

Ooh what sort of cake?

It was coffee and walnut sat by the canal. I had to run there though as boys decided to go on their balance bike and scooter!

Good for you! Sleep better, think better and feel better! Sounds perfect!

I love the way it starts my day too, but some people will never understand us.

You only need an aim to run if you’re also throwing a javelin!

I think sleeping, thinking and feeling better are perfect aims for an exercise regime. Along with that you have probably reduced your risk of a whole host of conditions associated with inactivity and should you succumb to a critical illness, as I did, you will be in the best possible condition to fight your way through.

It's a no brainer really.
