Is my running too slow?

Just completed week 2 run 2 and my running is so slow, my brisk walk is also not very brisk at all. I am proud that I’ve done it but I am a bit worried that I’m not quick enough. I only covered about 3k altogether.

Thanks

Speed comes with practice. It is better to go slowly than to go too fast and then not complete it days run.

I have also just done week 2 day 2 and I only covered 2.8k so don’t worry. You’ll never do 5k this early in the allotted time as it still has a lot of walking, once the weeks progress you do more running and less walking so by the end you’ll be covering more distance even if your running speed doesn’t increase simply because you’ll be running for longer than you’ll be walking. I hope that’s makes sense. Even if you’re not hitting 5k by the end of the challenge that can be your next thing to work on. Just be proud that you’re doing this and making changes! Well done.

I've just completed week 5 and I still walk faster than I run, it seems to me that it's more about building your stamina rather than speed, you can work on that once you graduate. Just go at your own pace and enjoy! 😁

Throughout the C25K programme, please don’t worry about speed, pace or distance. Despite the catchy name “C25K” the objective is to run for 30 minutes three times in a week.

That said, you should be running at a pace that gets your heart-rate up. If you find that you only just manage each run, then that is perfect. But if you don’t achieve a run, then this tells you to slow down.

“I’m in week 9 and don’t think I will hit 5km” is a frequent question on this community, as is “Am I running fast enough?”

Speed is not important so don't worry about it. Slow and even slower is the way to go, getting out there & completing the program is the important bit, speed can come later. I graduated in Feb 2017 and I am still not very fast but who cares? :)

You can't run too slow. Run as slow as you need to graduate. I was so so slow at graduation. Running about 3.3k. Now I run about 3.5k in 30 mins. Still slow but a little faster without trying. Just getting stronger I guess. 5k taking me 45 mins and I'm fine with that. I'll never ever run 5k in 30 mins. !!! 🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌🐌

Never too slow, when I graduated I only covered 3.5k in my 30 mins running. My first 5k was 40 mins. And I never got much faster ( on IC at the moment). It’s better to go slow and complete the run. I’ve seen several people go faster and have to keep stopping.

Good luck with it and let snails pass you if you have to 😁👍

For what it’s worth I could walk this faster but the running is different and the speed and distance will come!
