I was thinking how very different we all are. That led me to post this question: If you could choose just one tune to accompany you on your runs, what would it be?
You could listen to that tune as many or as few times as you feel on your run, but you can select only one tune.
Mine would be Baba O'Riley by The Who. Old school I know but I have great memories associated with it and have been lucky enough to see The Who on stage. The tune is uplifting and keeps me moving!
What would be your one tune?

Mmmmmm. Good question. I would have to decide between Gloria, the Dmixmasters version or hooked on Tchaikovsky. Strange and eclectic and I am very much an 80’s girl 😀.
Either "Born to Run" Bruce Springsteen OR "Keep on Running" by the Spencer Davis Group. Many years ago when my late wife was an official at our local athletic club, at the clubs annual dance they kept playing 'Keep on running' every 15 minutes or so, it drove me nuts as I like that song, nevertheless if I had only to chose 1 tune to run to, that would be the song.
I often run to the DID podcast. Kirsty also was interviewed by John Bishop....In Conversation With. I ran with that on podcast too..... lots of surprises !
Great question! I’m loving so many tunes at the moment, just for the cadence. My usual tastes are a bit more rock and heavy, Buuuuut.... if I had to say just one for running... Taylor swift ‘shake it off’! 👍🤣
I don’t listen to music just the traffic and night sounds but I was thinking this if I had to choose one, it’s fun and upbeat. Also the only thing that popped in my head. Defo for near the end of your run.
Errrrm..... I could choose quite a few but for that instant surge of adrenaline as the music starts, it has to be Dreamer by Livin' Joy ~ that intro still gives me goosebumps, and I am straight back to the 90's! 😎
Was struggling with a run the other morning and flagging a bit towards the end. Work Bitch by Britney Spears came on and it dragged my sorry self home 😁😁😁 That song will get my vote forever more now!
As part of my Prime membership, I have quite a lot of music free from Amazon Music, which I have been using for running.
I just downloaded Trish Trash Polka and Thunder and Lighting Polka by Johann Strauss to include as speed-up pieces in my running playlist, which so far includes South African songs from various albums and Taiko drumming numbers. Most of these are very upbeat with a fast rhythm.
However, at the moment, I am totally in love with a massively lush song from my South African collection and wait in great anticipation for it to come up on my random selections. Admittedly it is a bit slow, but it's always possible to add extra steps to each beat. The melody is so gorgeous and I really enjoy harmonising along with it, in my head while running and out loud when listening to it on Youtube:
We used to sing some lyrics to Trisch trasch polka at school Going back a bit now 😁
I was lucky enough to go to a paul Simon gig when he had Hugh Masekela, Miriam makeba and Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the bill. Running wise, to Paul Simon it’s Paranoia Blues for me 😃
Sadly... ABBA... Chiquitita.... it has kept me going, spurred me on , slowed me down and paced me on and generally been one of the pillars of my running. It has brilliant pace pattern x
Brilliant thread, I’m currently trying to re-jig my playlist to help my pace...but my go to is usually Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division (and the inspiring mental image of Martha Costello from Silks losing herself in the music 🎧 and dancing with abandon with her headphones in!)
Gimme Shelter, Rolling Stones. The most ominous opening in rock, slow killer tempo, disturbing lyrics, dark production. If that doesn’t lift your mood perhaps nothing ever will.
Me Blueskies ELO it’s a really good feel good song.
I'm not sure what it is about it, but for me it has to be "This is what you came for" by Calvin Harris and Rihanna. I am not a huge fan of either artist and I wish Rihanna would wear more clothes in her videos (she'll catch her death one day) but this song is THE BEST for giving me a lift as my legs are flagging. I have even positioned it in my Favourite Running Songs play list at about the 6 mile point to pick me up ready for a push to 10k (It's on Now 94 if you have no idea what it sounds like.)
Almost impossible to choose, but as they are my favourite band, I did see them live, this song is on the wonderful two tone /ska playlist put together by Hidden I will plump for Going Underground by The Jam
Fantastic question, but sooooo difficult to choose. My running playlist has 43 tunes on so far. Probably it would have to be ‘Lust for Life’ by Iggy Pop. I do have this image of Ewan McGregor as Renton in Trainspotting running from his dealers. 🤣🏃🏻♀️
I go for a live version of Satisfaction by the Stones. I am on stage with the “boys” whilst it’s playing and I am running. Never gonna stop whilst “we’re performing”!
