Heart rate question

I’ve been wearing a Fitbit and now up to week seven, I’ve noticed my heart rate seems really high, staying in peak for almost the whole 25 mins. But I am running slowly and not feeling like stopping, should I be concerned? I don’t think I could go any slower!

When you say ‘peak’, what average bpm is that? My average today was 158. Also I think the heat is making our hearts work harder too.

It reached 191 but my average was 153, I guess that high point was when I went up the hilly bit at the end. It did drop back quickly after though, must be the heat!

See, your average is lower mine 😂. Sounds good to me, especially with heat AND hills! 👍

Fitbit calculates your maximum heart rate only using age so isn't the most accurate thing (a very fit person I know has exceeded their theoretical max hr when running) so I wouldn't be too worried as long as you feel fine when running.

The formula used is 220 - age, for example i'm 20 so my max hr is 220-20 =200 bpm

If you want to have an appreciation of heart rate stuff and exertion

levels google the Karvonen Formulae and the Borg self assessment exertion number.

The basic age 220 - age etc., has its limitations as acknowledged by professionals in the business.

Just leave the Fitbit at home, or better yet, chuck it in the bin.

Wrist worn heart rate monitors such as Fitbit are not the most accurate at high heart rates. Also the formula is very approximate. A few times now I’ve been 10 or 15 points ABOVE the so-called maximum possible according to my Fitbit. If you don’t have a history of heart problems and you’re feeling OK when you run I wouldn’t worry about it.
