Hi.
Just done W3R3 and on my Apple Watch, I’ve noticed my heart rate got to 185 during my 3 min run! I’m 47 years old & wondering if I should repeat week 3 to give my heart a chance before I push on to week 4?
Hi.

I’m no expert but that seems high. I think I would get some medical advice just to make sure and feel confident to carry on at the same level
Are you going too fast?
I’m a nurse and that does seem higher than it should be. However on another note I would take what these apps like Fitbit say with a pinch of salt. I have looked at a few and they have all given different readings so I don’t believe they are that accurate. Do you feel well afterwards, no dizziness or pain at all? Bear in mind despite the heart being a muscle it should not be pushed over the limit for long periods of time. Maximum HR is 220 minus your age, so for you should be 220 - 47 which is 173. If in doubt see your GP. 😊
Very approximate guide is 220-age and so you are a bit above that, but nothing to worry about.
If you are concerned, or feel dizzy, see stars or want to vomit during/after a run then please make an appointment to see your doctor.
A JAMA Cardiology report had the Apple Watch as 91% accurate. Or put another way that reading of 185 could be 170.
Great advice given already.
I agree, don’t think the watches are that accurate. I wear a Garmin and my heart rate read 183 the other day and my max should be 166. My heart beat is regularly over 166 and I’m only on W5! I’m very unfit too but feel good (albeit exhausted 😁) during and after a run so haven’t been too bothered. Enjoy week 6 and let us know how you get on. Happy running. 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️
