Race at your pace?

I'm thinking about entering July's Race at your Pace, has anyone else done it? I'm stuck between 25 miles and 50 miles.. 25 seems low and 50 seems high!?

What distance should I go for? Does anyone have any advice for it?

50 is pretty much 20k a week. I’m only managing 13k a week at the moment. I’d be going for the 25 but you might be running more than me.

Also noting you can “walk, run or jog” the distance. So you could resolve to top up your running miles with walks on your rest days and go for 50?

It's a tricky one - I quite like the idea of it purely being for my "running" as I walk a lot (8-10k a day) so it feels like cheating haha! I think I'm going to go for the 25 and run it all (or try to!)

I think that's a good idea Jay! 20k a week is far too ambitious for me lol

Also note you “may” be able to upgrade to the next one up (presumably subject to medal availability).

At this stage I’d play it safe. Don’t set a high target, do too much and get injured in the process.

I think you can switch down after you’ve registered though if you’re not going to achieve the higher one so up to you.

Defo work out your current weekly average.

Thanks Simon!

I've worked out I do about 4.5k 3x a week so 13.5k per week, which over 4 weeks is about 33 miles (give or take), I think the 25mile one is right for my running and will keep me motivated to carry on my runs every week but isn't too stretching.

I can always do 50 another month when I'm a more experienced runner!

Sounds good. I work with someone who set themselves 100 miles for June. He couldn’t do it though so is going for 75 instead (still bonkers!)

I've just found your post - I have signed up to the November 25 miles because of this exact same reasoning! Did you finish it? :)

Hi!

Yes I did - managed 30miles in the end. Actually just signed up for the 50 in November as I’m now running 5k 4x a week ☺️

Hey Becky I’ve just signed up for this - I went for 50. I figured if I run 3.1 miles 4 times per week I won’t be far off 50. I’ll just fit in an extra run if I need to!

I saw these a while back and thought exactly the same - 25 won't push me beyond what I'm doing but 50 would most likely break me! so I've done neither, I'm still procrastinating :(

Good luck with yours though :)
