Slow and steady is the mantra.... as gently as you like... warm up well and stretch after every run.
Make sure you warm up really well too.... good hydration is key to this, especially with this warmer weather
Keep posting too and welcome to the best thing ever
Thanks babe I appreciate your time x
I can’t offer any tips other than to say well done. I bailed out half way through my first run so feeling a bit deflated.
congratulations on getting started. I'm a few weeks ahead of you but I'm still amazed that I ever started as it seemed ridiculous to me that I would ever be able to run any distance at all. take it slow, as slow as you can. it's hot out there today so it will feel harder but you can do it.
Billybob765 there is no shame in bailing if at first you don’t succeed try try again. I had to sit down half way through as my asthma had me panting lol
Don't EVER worry about being slow, ok? If people start to say "speed" or "pace" or complicated running-type words, blow them a raspberry. This is just always about minutes of running.
Take it really really slowly. Find your Inner snail and embrace it. Slow down. A lot.
If you're aware that your breathing is going or you're puffing and panting a lot, just slow it down. Your body's trying to do a whole bunch of new stuff. Give it a chance to keep up with your enthusiasm.
Finally, any questions, issues, whatever, just shout. We've all been where you are now. Got the sweaty teeshirt. We're all quite nice really xx
Thanks. I will give it another go absolutely after all 15 minutes with those sessions of 60 seconds of running is the most i’ve Done in years!
Only thing I can add is “decent shoes, well fitting sports bra”.
Those of us who are larger put more stress on our legs when we run, so well-fitting running shoes that give you the cushioning or support you need are important.
And I understand the same goes for boobs!
Hey well done for getting run 1 done. I’m a big girl too and honestly best advice is follow all the advice on this forum.
Slow and steady cannot be stressed enough. I was so nervous about going out for the first time and seeing other people speeding past. I just think that person might be on week 9 or beyond. I’m not in competition with them and we all have to start somewhere. As someone said they aren’t going to be discussing your running speed over dinner so why think twice about it
Drink lots of water the day before your runs, have a light breakfast and wait an hour and if things start to hurt while running then slow down. I thought that if I repeated a run then I had failed but this forum made me realise the opposite.
I never thought I would have said I have been on six runs by choice in the last two weeks but I have and I’m finding it fun - definitely challenging at times but it’s possible
Keep going and if you need motivation or advice then post here - that’s what I’ve been doing and I’m still here
I’m gonna go tonight as it’s very humid and lots of people in my area and I hate being looked at I struggle with that too xxxx
