Pain

So I’m getting all the pains I’ve read people are getting in their legs whilst running and some aches after which stretching helps with so not concerned about them.

I was wondering if anyone else has pain in their hands? My hands really hurt. I might be holding them wrong, to stiff while running? Is there a correct position for your hands? They hurt while in cooking, lifting etc

No ideas I’m afraid, but it’s amazing how many muscles you use to run!! You think it’s just your legs but nooooo....I find cold baths/showers after a run are the best for aching muscles xx

Pain is something we don't run through... maybe.. are you holding yourself tensely?

We do sometimes concentrate so hard when we begin this... try to make sure your shoulders are relaxed and shake out your hands. When you run pretend you are holding a bag of crisps, lightly in each hand.. so as not to crush them.

Also, try to land lightly..I call it, kissing the ground with your feet.... relax all your body and take it very slowly and steadily.

See how you go ?

When you run, the rule is to be relaxed.

No tension in shoulders, elbows loosely at approximately 90°, arms pumping opposite to leg action, hands unclenched and preferably not holding a water bottle as you run.

There is a link to good running form in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Your symptoms are not something I have heard of before and if they persist I would recommend that you check it out with your GP.

Hi Kamia , in the beginning I found my shoulders ached the day after a run so I consciously thought about relaxing them and it was fine. It’s amazing what changes our bodies are getting used to as we go from the couch. I was an office worker and my body is being used properly for the first time in decades.

Thanks everyone I will try to make sure I keep my arms/hands more relaxed when I next run and see if it helps.
