Hi leelee70, when I went to have my gait analysed , I chose the trainers I thought I liked and I wore these while the shop attendant videoed me running on a tread mill for just a couple of minutes or so, he then played it back and explained where I needed further support, he then put insoles in the trainers I was going to buy to correct my gait......I’m not sure if this was the same process for others but this was my experience......I was a little anxious about going and getting it done, but it was fine 😀
I ran in socks on the treadmill when I had my gait analysed so they could see how my feet, ankles and knees move when I run, then recommended trainers based on my running style. Hope this helps 😊
I didn't take my trainers, but he asked what l was wearing and found a similar pair for me to wear while l did the first analysis. He then explained what support l needed and then brought trainers for me to try, then analysed my run with them on to show me the difference. It was amazing! Probably easier to take what you already wear for initial analysis. It does make a huge difference. Good luck.
Best thing I ever did was have a gait analysis. I suffered with leg pain after ever run and it was down to my trainers . I took my old ones along and ran on the treadmill whilst been filmed . App I over pronate ( my foot turns outwards when I run ) the new trainers r great and honestly no pain since and surprisingly they weren’t that expensive x
I ran in socks, they videoed and used some kind of heat camera from memory and then designed special insoles to go into new trainers (Brooks). I also went a size up as my trainers were causing my foot to to numb when I was running, so it’s good to get measured properly to allow space for the insole
I went in my old 'trainers'. They were not used. He had me walking and running in bare feet, then in about 20 different shoes with shop socks. Also stood on a thermal imaging thingy to find out how my feet touch the ground. And then he recommended something cheaper than I expected - and even gave a discount of those and the socks I bought. It took about an hour - good job I'd bought 2 hours parking......
Thank you all so much for replying, I’ve taken all your advice onboard so I think I’m set to go and get this done........eeeeek new trainers here I come!! 😜
The running shop just up from the cathedral does gait analysis. I had mine done there but I'm not convinced they did it properly. I've been suffering from Achilles pain so went in to see if my shoes were the culprit
I was in the shop literally 10 minutes and the assistant told me everything was fine. I rested for a couple of weeks until the ankle felt well enough to try again and now I'm back to square one. Now I'm waiting on a physio appointment. Not being able to run is starting to depress me. Hopefully you'll get it done properly. Good luck.
Decathlon do it. I guess any reputable running shop will do it. When I had mine done it was if they couldn't be bothered. Just told me my shoes were fine. I suppose on the plus side they didn't tell me that a pair of shoes at £150 would solve the issue!!
Can I also ask... when you have had gait analysis do you do that every time you need new running trainers? Or just the first time and then you know what you need?
I went yesterday to sports direct in Clark’s village and they didn’t know what gait analysis was, looked at me like I had two heads! I’ll try next week when I’m home.
I had mine done yesterday - they gave me trainers to wear (I had my own on but they didn’t test me in them). Then they recommended the type of trainers I needed and got me to run again in them. I did my first run in my new trainers yesterday and was amazed at the difference - no shin pain at all! Well worth getting it done 😊
