Hello all! Summer running is definitely with us folks 🌞

Welcome to the first week in June of β€œWhat is your week?”h

So- the idea of, "What is your Week?”.

Every week I am going to put up a post, so you can add in a little post underneath, to say what week you are planning to do this week.

Sample post (feel free to put as much or as little as you like):

β€œHi, I'm Millsie-J and this week, I am doing the milestone Week 6 runs. Feeling a little nervous, any tips folks? β€œ

We are growing so much at the moment and we wanted to have a little fun post ,so we can see who is on what week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

If you have just graduated, this will also be a great place to keep you motivated, there is always the Quest on the Bridge to 10k forum as well, for Graduates.

I will add all the names from this week under this post. Then every week for the month of June the names will roll over into another post. Anyone can join in at any time.

Let's get a good list going so we can support each other throughout the month, and get another four weeks of running miles in our legs!

(Come on you lurkers, we would love you to come join us too)!

Happy running everyoneπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»πŸŒž

I’m just starting week 9, and my graduation run is supposed to be concurrent with a RFL 5k.

Went out to walk/measure a new route yesterday and it was sooo hot and muggy. So, because I like running when it’s cooler I might fight the RFL and do my graduation run nice and early on my own as usual, near to home. Shame to miss the RFL, but my graduation run means more to me. I’ll still go for 5k though. If the weather changes it could all still happenπŸ‘

I've just done Week 1 run 2. First run had me limping for 2 days but this time I feel fine! Looking forward to run 3 and then week 2. Onwards and upwards (preferably downwards when running though...)

Hello Kate and welcome to the forum and to a new way of life.

Take care with any pain, aches however can be expected when using new muscles.

Here is an excellent item, full of lots of guidance.

Hi Millsie-j, you ask 'what is your week' answer, my week 7 was completed this morning at 1040, I ran around a loch in drizzle, the only place in Scotland where it was wet, this loch is about 14 or so miles from where I live, if I had ran it locally I would not have got wet, the run went OK but the drizzle misted up my specks a bit, my pace was about 168 cadence steps a minute, I enjoyed the run apart from that darned drizzle.

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-JGraduateβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

Ooooh unlucky with the rain, but still a great run! Have you tried a cap for running in the rain, it may help with the misting up of glasses 🀞🏼

Thank you for that advice Millsie-j, I will look out for one of those, I just got an e-mail from my daughter, she has got me one of those new wrist watches which tells you everything about your running, how far you have gone etc, might have that ready for my 28 minutes run on Wednesday of week 8 run 1.

I did W3R3 today, and it was great! I’m doing my runs on the treadmill, and getting strong enough to run outside. Where I live in Pennsylvania, nothing is flat for more than 400 feet! LOL

Hi

I just completed wk3 run 3 this morning.

Pleased that it felt better (I can pretty confidently say I can run (slowly) for 3 minutes now) but nervous about the step up to 5 minutes at a time that's coming on Thursday (wk4 run 1).... is it me or is it a bit ridiculous to be worried about an extra 2 mins - especially when I look ahead to the following weeks and what they have in store?

Fingers crossed for Thursday.

Equi-geek profile image
Equi-geekGraduateβ€’ in reply toAuntiecake

Fabulous that you're doing so well. I've just done W4R1 and if you're confident with 3 minutes then I'm sure you can do the W4. I set off at exactly the same slow pace as before and it was fine! I bet you'll surprise yourself ;) - have confidence X

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-JGraduate

Just go with one run at a time Auntiecake, you can do it, you already are πŸ‘πŸΌ

I did W8R1 this morning. Struggled with not stopping but it's a mental block rather than a physical one. Kept thinking about what Iannodatruffe said - only stop if you are struggling to breathe or you are in pain. Well I was neither. My legs were tired. I think stopping becomes a habit. Before this programme I used to do a walk/run combo & got used to it.

Am about to head out for W4R1 in a minute, and I've been doing some research today on shoes and gait, learning about pronation and so on. It seems I may have inadvertently started with a pretty good pair of trainers for my weight, running style and training terrain - the Salomon XR Mission. Going to get a gait analysis done this week with a mate, anyway, as I have hip joint osteoarthritis from a labral tear and horse riding injury. Determined to avoid injury - I don't cope with it very well, historically! Have a good week all!

Equi-geek profile image
Equi-geekGraduateβ€’ in reply toEqui-geek

I'm back, and Wow - I am feeling great! I've stuck with the programme, gone slowly, and taken my rest days and tonight I am so much stronger and more able to control my breathing. Even sprinted the last 10 seconds :) I think it really helped to complete the Park Run; doing W3R3 for 30 minutes and then walk/jogging the rest of the 5k as best as I could. I am now 40s per km faster than in W1 without really trying. I can hardly believe it to be honest - this really isn't my 'thing' at all, I've tried running and hated it before now.

I’ve done week 6 run 3 on Monday (which went all right) so will be week 7 run 1 next. Have been doing couch to 5k on and off for nearly 10 years now 😳 - think my peak was in about 2012 but will see how I go with this attempt. Moving is better than not moving anyway 😊

If you want to run on a treadmill, fine, but it does require a high boredom threshold.

Week 1 Run 2 completed, honestly hated the idea of running before this app, finding it challenging but fun so far. Bit worried about the jump between week 1 and week 2, looks more difficult, how did everyone find this jump?
